Top 3 JRPG that must be revived by a sequel

Posted by Ahmad Dajani On July - 18 - 2009

Sometimes when you sink your teeth in a game for over 50-60 hours and finish it , something comes to your mind ” WOW what a great game, I need a sequel with more improvements “. After that, you start searching for news hoping to see if the developers of the game are interested in making a sequel or not and that hope starts to fade little by little with time.

These are one of my favorites JRPGs, so you may agree or disagree with the list, it will vary from one person to another.

This is my list, but Feel free to share with us your top JRPG you want to be revived by a sequel:

1. Skies Of Arcadia :

Sega, how about you wake up and get on your feet again by delivering what your fans want? instead of the crappy sonic games you release every now and then.

Skies Of Arcadia is the best JRPG on Dreamcast and one of the games that should have a sequel. OK, they ported the game for the Game Cube, but is that enough? no, it’s all because of Sega bad decision to release it on the Game Cube instead of releasing the game on the king of JRPGs last generation the PlayStation 2.

By delivering a good story and improving the battle system, it will be a success. Just imagine all of the gunship battles featured in the original game in HD graphics.

2. Vagrant Story :

Square-Enix, what the fuck are you doing this generation? Where is the top JRPGs you used to deliver during last generations?

The Last Remnant is drowned with technical issues, Star Ocean 4 battle system is fun, but the story was boring, same thing goes for Infinite Undiscovery.

Vagrant story battle system was unique and addictive, the story was epic, and most importantly it was critically and financially successful, So why not?

While I’m very excited for the release of Final Fantasy 13 and versus 13, we need more from you Square-Enix.

3. Chrono Trigger/Chrono Cross :

Square-Enix Senior Vice President Shinji Hashimoto “If people want a sequel, they should buy more!” Gamers bought 890k copies of Chrono Trigger for NDS according to VGchartz.com and that isn’t good enough for Square-Enix to think about making a sequel?

When you ask a gamer, what is your top 5 JRPGs you have ever played? it’s guaranteed that you will hear Chrono Trigger or Chrono Cross in his list. One of my favorite soundtracks from Chrono Cross is scars of time, hearing it make me go nogolistic all over again.

Time-traveling, different game-endings, and well told story is what we want from you square-enix, make it happen.

Well, the dev team that made Skies of Arcadia are the same people (merged with another group now, though) that made Valkyria Chronicles. It’s not Skies of Arcadia, but at least those guys are doing something productive with their time unlike some other companies I know.

WHAT !? star ocean 4 and Infinite Undiscovery was Developed by tri-Ace ” not Square Enix ”!!! Square Enix just published these games .
and for the The last remnant the game sucked because of the crappy ooverrated Western engine they were unfamiliar with called UNREAL ENGINE 3, but the story was awesome ”the most important element in rpg games”
Square Enix still makes good games Final Fantasy 13 and versus 13 will prove that ! but they are really slow ya know

I hear ya. VS and CC remain two of my absolute favorites, and IMO represented the pinnacle of Square for non-FF efforts. It’s sad that they can’t come even close to this level of quality anymore, and it seems like they hardly even try.

Yes, you are right star ocean 4 and Infinite Undiscovery was Developed by tri-Ace but the two games get published under square-enix name. Regarding the last remnant they ruined the game by using unreal engine 3, so it’s square-enix fault.

Totally agree with FOR WE ARE MANY, those 3 RPG’s are of the best ever developed. This generation doesn’t have anything even close to these 3 or the ones mentioned in the article.
