Which upcoming exclusive will define the PS3?
No one can argue the fact that Sony console has produced some of the best games this generation. I have been watching the sales performance of every big exclusive game for the PS3, as there are a lot of exclusive games for the PS3 sold pretty well, but the problem is Sony console the PS3 still don’t have a game as powerful as Halo 3 or Gears Of Wars1/2 when it comes to sales.
Before MGS4 was set to be released last year, I was predicting it to be the game that will set the PS3 on fire. While the game helped in shifting more PS3 consoles around the world, my expectations was higher for a game that as well recognized as the MGS franchise. After that I has put my money on Little Big Planet to be the game that will define the PS3 as a gaming console, as it have all the features you need in a game to bring both of the hardcore and casual gamers to buy Sony console, but LBP failed to magnetize huge portion of casual gamers. As I think there are two main reasons why Little Big Planet wasn’t the system seller all gamers around the world were hoping for, first thing is Sony hasn’t advertised the game the way it should be, the second reason is they released the game in the same time frame as Fable 2, which was hyped by Peter Molyneux to the roof plus Microsoft advertised Fable 2 heavily.
After that the hype was hitting the roof before the release of Killzone 2, as there was a lot of articles discussing how Killzone 2 will give the PS3 the edge over Xbox360 regarding sales, I was expecting it to be the best selling HD game in 2009. I will be honest with you, after I have seen the sales for Killzone 2 I was very confused and I started to ask my self a question “is it too late for the PS3 to have a game as powerful as Halo/Gears when it comes to sales?”.
Sony must do a better job in marketing every upcoming PS3 exclusive because they need a game to define the PlayStation brand again. As the games that defined the PlayStation brand during last generations are no more exclusives and most of them are now available on Xbox360. Just look how good Microsoft handled the marketing for Halo/Gears of War games, Sony needs to do a better job in marketing its upcoming big hitters in the future.
I know there are a lot of PS3 exclusives coming in the future, but the big questions are, which game will define the PS3 console and increases its sales heavily? Will Sony do a better job in marketing its upcoming big hitters to turn the table on Microsoft head?

That’s because Halo and Gears are the only AAA titles on the Xbox.
The ps3 has so many AAA titles that ONE game cannot define the brand. We don’t want ONE game to define the PS brand. We want the PS to be known as the console with so many AAA games that we cannot choose the best.

Aaron said it, we don’t want ONE game, but many, in EVERY genre. Platformers, action adventures, shooters, racers – simulation, offroad & futuristic – fighters, RPG’s, hack&slashers, other cool stuff and those Japanese masterpieces…and once again Playstation exclusives are the benchmark games this generation for every genre. Yeah, we play games, not sales. We play create & share NEW genres with Little Big Planet & ModNation Racers:)

The “main” game that PS3 will have is God Of War 3, that should be their Halo so to speak…and the runner up is Uncharted and/or Final Fantasy XIV, those are the 2-3 games in my opinion which will be the best selling games for the PS3.
The game that Naughty Dog should make again is Crash Bandicoot!!

Crash Bandicoot works fine on my 60GB, Naughty Dog should start with a new exclusive IP like R* does with Agent, and continue&finish with Uncharted 3 on the next Playstation, like Kratos deserved. New games every generation please, some will make it to franchises, and then we’ll see what goes multi-platform the following generation. So we can see people ‘win’ an event like E3:) One jRPG-port & sum lightning bolt action, oh really? M’kay…
For me personally it’s WipEout that defines PlayStation, from back in 2097 untill now in Full HD fury. Online AG racing has become an addiction, and I can’t wait 2 meet some online buddies from the States in Gran Turismo’s lobby’s later this year, preparing for NASCAR.

I agree that we want lots of games, but implaying that the XBOX only has 2 AAA games is stupid, I think GT5, GOW3 and Uncharted are going to be the big games for the PS3

I dont mind having uncharted 3 on ps3, i mean the game is great! leave it like uncharted 4 : Only posible on PS4!

Aaron is wrong. I can name two triple a titles to match… fable 2 and forza 2/3…. forza 2 is already the best sim out there and forza 3 looks to raise the bar further.
I’ll be picking up a ps3 maybe this holiday for demon souls, that’s the game that defines the ps3 for me. Demon souls looks like the best rpg of this generation. I see nothing that compares to it coming on any platform.

The Xbox 360 also has just as many great games aside from Gears and Halo as the PS3 that have been very popular. Fable, Forza, Left4Dead, Mass Effect, Crackdown, Dead Rising. Sure Halo defined the original Xbox but no game has defined the Xbox 360. It has tremendous 3rd party support just like the PS3 (even more so) but lacks as many 1st party. This is why Microsoft is so aggressive getting early exclusives and exclusive DLC.
Bottom line is each console offers gamers a great variety and loads of entertainment. The Playstation 2 had tones of support and variety as well but it’s main games were GTA, Final Fantasy, MGS, God of War and GT.Now they have new IP’s like Uncharted that have replaced the lost exclusives from 3rd party.

I prefer a handfull of solid exclusives a year over tons of mediocre multi-platform games or downloadable add-ons.

Microsoft’s advertising is done exceptional well. When I was in the cinema and REM tune came on for the Gears of War ad. I was moved and wanted to get the game. Same with halo 3. But in the end both Halo3 and GOW are pretty meh and mindless. Gears of war and Halo use adult tones and moody music even though every young kid on the block to the slick professional are playing the damn fun-over the top and silly storylines.
With Resistance 1 the advertising i thought was very well done and hence it sold better than resistance 2. The first ad was emotional (not in a childish way). Resistance 2 ads just became childish and geeky – made the game appeal to 12 year olds or immature grown-ups. If Sony want to reach out they have to refocus their advertising and marketing strategy and make quality ads like the ones from 360, Stella Artois, Heineken, Wii, etc. I’ve cringed at how crap PS advertising has become the last 2 years (psp, monster hunter, lbp, resistance 2, etc) makes me feel childish, goofy, weird and uncomfortable.

Agent R I’m dumbfounded as to why you think there aren’t any solid multi-platform games and mediocre exclusives as well. I’ve had just as much fun playing Modern Warfare as I did Halo 3 and Killzone 2. I’ve also had just as much fun playing NHL 09 as I did MLB The Show 09. Same with Mass Effect and Fallout 3.
On the other hand I’ve had mediocre experiences with games such as Too Human and Lair.

I think, The Last Guardian and Heavy Rain will be defining games for the PS3, because they will be more than just an overload of action and graphics; it provide be emotional gameplay and will stand out from the crowd that way.

i would say heavy rain.
its a game that has not been done before, every ps3 exclusive is either a squeal or has allot of games like it.
heavy rain is unique.
its the only game that does what it does and thats why its my GOTY 2010 even without seeing all the games that come out, im positive it will be the only ORIGINAL game thats why it gets my GOTY 2010.

as for ND back on crash bandicoot.
i couldent agree more, some one should start a petition get a few signatures than send it to naughty dog.
than make one for criterion to make BLACK2.
i would kill for naughty dog to create another crash game same goes for black 2.
