Hands down…..Uncharted 2 is GOTY 09
Believe this or not, despite the fact that I have played the first Uncharted and I enjoyed my time with the game, I have never finished the damn game. It’s one of the few games that I had started playing and didn’t finish it.
The original game is still one of the best looking games this generation. Few games has reached the same graphical status as seen in Uncharted. The game combined highly detailed character models with Lush jungle environments. The gameplay was a mix between Tomb Raider (climbing, swinging and puzzle solving) and Gears of Wars (cover system and shooting). But there was one problem in the original game in my opinion; the game pacing was a little bit inconsistent.
Now, after we have seen a lot of videos from the game, I think the developers has fixed the not so perfect pacing from the original game. The sequel seems to be faster and more action-packed than the original. Naughty Dog said that Uncharted 2 will be 60% action and 40% adventure, which is the perfect mix for a game of its kind. Also, the story in the sequel seems to be more epic and engaging this time.
Now let us talk about how good the visuals looks in Uncharted 2, Naughty Dog has upped the bar higher regarding visual fidelity this time, with higher polygons count in the character models, more crisper looking textures and better physics and explosions. Drake’s animation looks more natural and more lifelike this time. Sometimes, it’s better to show than tell, so watch this footage from PAX 09 to get what I mean.
Naughty Dog said before that the story mode in the sequel will be longer than what we have seen in the original game, which means it will take you between 12-15 hours to complete the game. Add to this a competitive multiplayer mode, plus a co-op mode and you will get a complete package that you can’t refuse or ignore.
There are a lot of games that had been pushed back to 2010 (Splinter Cell: Conviction and Bioshock 2 just to name a few), which in my opinion made the competition much easier for Uncharted 2 to take the crown of 2009.
I think that Assassin Creed 2 will take the second spot and Forza 3 will take the best racing game this year, unless Sony announce that GT5 will be released this year, which will make the competition harder for Forza 3.
If you are a gamer and you are interested in playing the best game of 2009, do yourself a favor by pre-ordering Uncharted 2 now, you will not be disappointed.
Update:
God of War 3 has never been pushed back to 2010, I regret the error. for that, I have replaced it with Bioshock 2. GOW games always set to be released in Q1 of the year and to be more specific, March.

As a PS360 owner, i agree with you, Modern Warfare 2 is ofcourse their, however, for a game to be game of the year it needs to perfect its single player and have a really good multiplayer, MW2 will have a reciprocal approach by have a phenomenal multi and really good campaign, thus Uncharted 2 will take GOTY

What are you doing here, go and finish the game!! I certainly think it should be game of the year, from my experience on the first one, the beta and those videos.
Seriously I played the first 4 times, and I will play it through again in a few weeks to get me ready for U2 which I will order once I get my reward points from the Beatles Rock Band, I can’t wait
For a game to be great, it has to have great story, great graphics, great sound and, of course, great game gameplay, and Uncharted has them all, well done Naughty Dog!

The chance of this game NOT getting GOTY are very very low.
The Only game that I can soo standing in its way is MW2, but I doubt it since to wayyy to similar to MW1.
Uncharted 2 has won COUNTLESS awards at E3 and gamescom ect

For all the praise that Uncharted 1 duly deserved but didnt receive, I hope U2 receives these praises, and from looking at the trailers, it will most definitely receive more!! Has my vote for GOTY.

mw2 is gonna be competition to it and hey you maybe ppl forgot killzone 2 even though it was so long ago. Uncharted will probably win since mw2 really aint innovative. ppl buy it mostly for the multiplayer so really it shouldnt get goty. I preordered Uncharted 2 already and planning to get mw2 day of release ;]. hopefully mw2 doesnt turn out to be cod4 1.5.

So… You’re recommending people to pre-order a game you never played and is not out yet based solely on hype, and even after you admit you didn’t finish the first game in the series because the pacing wasn’t good.
The same goes to Assassins Creed: the first game failed to deliver, so how can you be so sure the second will fulfill the promise?
All at the same time, these holiday season we will see sequels such as MW2, Halo OSDT, L4D2, Forza 3, GTA IV episodes and original games like Dragon Age and Brutal Legend. All of these are from companies well known for their AAA games from previous installments and are as much GOTY contenders as AC2 and U2 if not more.
And on top of that you have Batman and Killzone 2, both already released this year but are still solid contenders for GOTY award.

1. finish Uncharted, you will do yourself a favor as a gamer and you will gain credibility in the process. the game pacing is fine btw.
2. GT5 is coming this year, around december 4th-11th, there will be a PS3+GT5 bundle also.
3. if Uncharted 2 doesnt win GOTY, the internets officially suck.

I have played the multiplayer beta for Uncharted 2 and I must say that the gameplay is amazing and the graphics are unmatched. Regarding ‘Assassins Creed: the first game failed to deliver’ no, I have enjoyed the first game and if you have been following the development of the sequel, you must already know the list of tweaks the developers are bringing to the sequel. Halo 3:ODST (I’m playing it right now) and L4D 2 are gonna be amazing games, but don’t get me wrong, both games doesn’t look as polished as Uncharted 2
I played Batman: Arkham Asylum and while I think it’s a GOTY material, I think the game will be topped by the upcoming releases this year.

I disagree that there was anything wrong with the pacing in Uncharted. I thought the game was nicely paced with the emphasis on exploration and the occasional firefight and the perfect length to keep the audience emotionally invested in the cinematic experience of the game. I agree that the sequel looks like it will be amazing and (while I would like to know where you found that Bioshock 2 will be pushed back to 2010) the game will certainly be a strong contender for game of the year, but I don’t know if it will be able to recreate the magic of the original.

I have to agree with the fact that Uncharted 2 will win GOTY. The french PSM3 gave it a 21/20 & IGN gave it a 9.5, both very high scores. It’s hard to see nay game which would have both complet and amazing single player and multiplayer/co-op components. The only game which I am looking forward to more than U2 is Heavy Rain, which will only be releasing next year. So until then, U2 is it =D

I disagree with on that Uncharted 2 will be GOTY 2009, but it will probably be a very close runner-up. Modern Warfare 2 will almost certainly be a tad better than U2, because (and I did play the U2 beta in June) the multiplayer wasn’t very fun to me.
The multiplayer in the past 2 CoD games have been amazing, lasting longer thna any other game I have ever played. Halo 3 kept my attention for a couple months, CoD 4 kept it until only recently.
Yes, the campaign MAY not be as good or well written as U2, but I feel that the multiplayer experience shoul overwhelm the single player experience now anyway. Trophies and Achievments only keep me coming back to the SP anyway, after I played it through and experienced the story.
Graphics… CoDs are on 360 as well, so their graphics are hindered by this. U2 uses almost all of the processor of the PS3, which means that it is amazingly detailed and good to look at.
I think that it will all come down to Uncharted 2, Modern Warfare 2, and Assassins Creed 2 for GOTY 2009, but I would like to see a new IP take it.
