‘UNCHARTED 2: Start the sales bashing!’ What a joke
In an article on N4g, SMGamers.com published an article about how some of the gaming media are bashing PS3 exclusives by bringing them down through mentioning sales figures for those games and comparing them with very popular Xbox 360 exclusives such as Halo 3 and Gears. The author of the article even mentioned our article ‘Will Uncharted 2 be the first PS3 exclusive to sell 5 million copies?’ as a bashing material for Uncharted 2, which is absolutely wrong. While his article does have some good points, the author bashed a couple of gaming website including ours just for hits. I will explain why by replying to one of the quotes from his article:
‘By all accounts, Uncharted 2 is a masterpiece.
So it’s time to cue the journalistic hate.
If certain sites can’t bash Uncharted 2 for what it accomplishes as a game, they’ll go after sales.’
You are saying that Uncharted 2 is a masterpiece? I said before in an article that Uncharted 2 will be hands down GOTY 09. Can you tell me how this is bashing Uncharted 2? If you are calling this bashing, then I agree with you.
If you are saying that I’m bashing Uncharted using sales numbers, for the second time you are wrong, I said in my article that the original game had sold 2.55M copies worldwide, which is a very respectful number for a new IP. I will explain one more time how Uncharted 2 will easily surpass the sales of the original game and maybe hit the 5 million mark; first of all, Uncharted 2 is more recognized than the original game was. Secondly, the original game had sold 2.55M when PS3 price tag was much higher than now, so with the help of PS3 slim (299$) and maybe the rumored Uncharted 2 bundle (250GB PlayStation 3 slim) the game will sell like hot cakes. Thirdly, the multiplayer portion of the game will give it longevity, which was missing in the original game. Last but not least, the PS3 user base exceeded 24 million owners and still increasing, which will make the possibility of purchasing Uncharted 2 higher.
I know that sales doesn’t always mean quality. Also, I know that some gamers don’t care about sales, but it’s very important for the game developers/publishers. If a certain game doesn’t sell well, the developers of the game will not think about making sequel for that game in the future or they could sacrifice quality because of lack of funding, which isn’t good for us, gamers. Is my message clear?

I dont think they are saying that you are bashing the game…
what they are saying is that by even putting up comments like “will it be the first ps3 game to sell 5 million”, you are putting the game in a position where other people can in the future quote your article and say…”haah, it didnt get anywhere near the so called 5 million they thought it might”.

I’m not upset, but I don’t want gamers or our readers to think that I’m bashing Uncharted 2.

from reading that bit…the message I get is what I originally said. They are not claiming that you are bashing the game! They are claiming that effectively you are providing fuel for the sales bashing if it were to ever happen.
Since your article is one of the more read articles today on N4G, its obviously attracted a lot of attention…and dare I say it, a fair few fanboys on both fronts. If that sorta article isnt effectively asking the fanboys to have a go at each other..I dont know what is.

Hey! Kyle here. Others caught on right away to my meaning of including your link.
While other sites certainly seem to need a reason to bash the PS3 at every corner, no where in my article do I state that your intent was to bash Uncharted 2 by setting sales expectations, but I simply don’ t know what your intent is. All I’m pointing out is that once you start making those type of predictions, it becomes a slippery slope and if it doesn’t meet those expectations you’re left posting “What went wrong” articles when nothing went wrong in the first place.
Obviously, you feel excited about Uncharted 2 and don’t want your readers to think you aren’t – but take a second and think, what are the potential consequences for my raising the sales expectations this early on.
Your site may not have intended any slight by making these sales predictions, but others will set up Uncharted 2 in an attempt to watch it fall. It’s just a matter of time, and that was the point of my article.
Also, there’s a feedback form on my page. If you had a comment, you could have emailed me. I would have been more then happy to consider your side and amend my article, if appropriate.

Thats what I dont like about game BLOGGERS, they set out negativity towards a game, which in turn fuels up the gaming media. All of the sudden you get this BS articles bashing the game, all because a blogger lit up the first spark.
PS: Bull$%!t PRESS is just like gravity, all it needs is a ‘little push’

Let me tell you that your article have a lot of good points, but you article title:
‘UNCHARTED 2: START THE SALES BASHING!’ does have a negative meaning since VGarabia.com is the first website that had discussed Uncharted 2 sales. Also, you have mentioned our website in your article which indicating that you are talking to us in undirected way. He wasnt talking about your site in particular about bashing on ps3 exclusives he was talking about some other sites. but it is true what he said when a ps3 exclusive comes out and it is a very good game they talk about sales after the game is released and how bad it sold. For example LBP sold bad so it was everywhere that it did bad in sales but the same website said it was the shi! then you see a review about banjo 360 game and people said it was a very good game but when sales were really bad worse then LBP no one had a article about how bad Banjo sales were for the 360. And sale were usally low because the ps3 had less consoles sold things will change now.

This site is the joke. I actually agreed with SMGamers, this site will just bash the hell out of U2 when it sells less than 2 mil by the end of the year.
