Shenmue 3 is now a possibility
In one of the articles I had written here at VGarabia.com, I had discussed what are the reasons that’s preventing Sega from releasing shenmue 3 on current generation of consoles. Sega had put a lot of resources and money to create Shenmue, even Yu Suzuki the creator of Shenmue had stated in interview that Shenmue development cost reached 70 million dollars.
The main problem is: current generation of gamers barely knew about this masterpiece. Also, why would Sega consider releasing shenmue 3 for gamers who hadn’t played the previous games in the series? Marketing and sales wise, it doesn’t make sense for them.
So, one of my suggestions was to release shenmue 1&2 on PSN or XBL, in an attempt to revive the franchise and to make current generation of gamers asking for a third game. Fans of Shenmue (like me) has been asking many times for a third game, but we must be realistic about it.
But after the leaked information from the infamous meeting between Sony and Sega, everything could change. Sega is considering now to release some classic Dreamcast games on PS3, which could open the opportunity in reviving the Shenmue franchise through releasing the two previous games on PSN. If Sega did this and they became satisfied by how many times shenmue 1&2 has been downloaded from PSN, we will have a higher opportunity of seeing Shenmue 3 in our hands.
I hope Sega to consider releasing Shenmue games as a part of the deal. But nothing has been confirmed to this point, so we will have to wait and see.

Why make a article for this?, it’s dreaming on a scale never seen before. Shenmue is dead, it will never come back. You may as well make a article about how the moon might have a cheesy center.

Shenmue 3 will come out and Nick will have to eat his words with a side of cheese straight from the moons center. But seriously tho, this is a given in that if Sega releases Shenmue 1 & 2….part three will be even more of a possibility. It will come.

This is liking the gaming equivalent if GnR’s Chinese Democracy. It will come out sometime, but it will take so long that everyone will be too old to remember what it was all about in the firstplace. Dreamcast and shenmue are seemingly symbiotic in their lifescale, but Sega, no, the gaming enterprise as a whole, will always be able to class Shenmue 3 as a maybe. Fever pitch will probably bubble down to cult curio in the time it will take though!

Chris: Releasing Shenmue 1 & 2 on PSN doesn’t tell anything about making Shenmue 3. Sega has re-released dozens of Sega Genesis and Master System games for PS3, 360 and Wii (I have Sega Genesis collection on PS3 with over 40 games). Doesn’t mean they would make sequels for them. It is just natural that they start re-releasing Dreamcast on PSN and XBLA (Wii size limits are too small for DC games). It cost very little for Sega to port DC games because both PS3 and 360 are fast enough to emulate DC.
Shenmue 1 & 2 on PSN and XBLA would have to sell a lot to guarantee Shenmue 3. I would say around 1 million at least. Shenmue 3 is high-budget series so they can’t start developing game unless they are certain it would sell millions of copies. I’m not saying making Shenmue 3 is impossible but it is just possible if re-releases are very popular.

Shenmue is very great game, the best of the DC for me, i only buy DC for that game, and if some one say bad tinghs of this game is because he never palyed .

evey dreamcast owner and almost every veteran gamer care for Shenmue. games rom different genres like Ecstatica, Littl Big Adventure, Carmageddon (1), Streets of Rage,Gunstar Heroes, Shenmue and mny others were great and proved their worth in every aspect. it’s a shame and also a pain to let go of such good games. SEGA has great weapons, if only they re-use them.

Maybe there is hope for a shenmue 3. Ryo Hazuki appears now on the new sega racing game check on youtube. Is incredible seeing Ryo racing on a forklift and a motorcycle against sonic,samba de amigo etc. Watch it!

I don’t know how anyone can say that Shenmue is dead! How? Why? It just has its problems but it’ll be made and released one day, for sure. We just have to stick by it and wait.

i played shenmue 1 and 2 they were brill! but that was when i was 17 am now 26. most players nowadays are not from my generation! so it will be hard to beleive that yu suzuki will bring forth a 3rd part which i think is a shame because it had a exelent story and a detailed world full of things to do. its like making lord of the rings 1 and 2. we are missing the most important sequel of games ever made.

Listen a game where all you do is walk up to people press (A) and listen terrible voice acting will never be a success. Yeah it was a nice Idea. in the years 1999-2001 but those days are 10 years gone now so common.
the only they can bring back shenmue to a sucessful status is be starting again from number 1.
this time theyed need to work on the gameplay.
for all those poeple who are gonna say there was fighting and driving a fork lift and holding your job common. Nobody has time for that We got lives.

As a massive Shenmue fan, I hope the series makes a resurgence but I fear that Shenmue 3 is too big of a project and financial risk for SEGA to develop.
The only way forward for Shenmue is to release the whole thing for a new console OR release 1 and 2 on LIVE or PSN.

Come on make shenmue happen. Although I agree, that perhaps they sheould release 1 &2 on PSN first, and then make the 3rd. I recently went and bought a used DC just to play shenmue(enven though i already played it when it came out) because all the news and that cart racing game featuring him. I just couldnt take it any more. I would pay twice for Shenmue if it ever came out. I would pay twice for the 1 and the 2nd as well. I want my Shenmue!! damn it.

I am 33 now, I have played 1 & 2 when I was like 21 or so and would certainly play 3 if ever made! Real shame! when lot much less better games been published to 5 or 6 parts! Damn it SEGA! Just do it! its why I bought DreamCast and Xbox in first place! I would even buy a console that only play Shenmue’s and sure most of you guys would.
