11 upcoming games that will blow you away graphically
We are now living in the HD era, and with each year pass us away, we still continuously seeing video game developers who are trying to push the boundaries with new engines, special tricks and visual effects in an attempt to impress us (gamers) and to bring non gamers to game.
Great graphics don’t always make a great game. But if a certain game has good gameplay with bad graphics, it undoubtedly will lessen the experience as a whole.
Take a note that Uncharted 2 will not be on this list, that’s because the game is already out. One more thing, this list is in no particular order, here we go:
- Final Fantasy XIII:
Final Fantasy series is one of the most known series in videogames history. Each game in this very popular series has been able in raising the bar regarding visuals and attention to details, and this latest entry will be no exception.
Final Fantasy XIII is the first game of the main series of Final Fantasy in high definition. The game uses a new engine (Crystal Tools), which will be used for the first time this generation. The impressive Characters models, detailed environment, and the amazing artistic design of the game world will make this game a stunner.
- God of War 3:
The first two games in the series had pushed the PS2 hardware to its limits so don’t be surprised if God of War 3 has been able to push the PS3 spec to its limit when it arrives early next year. The folks at Santa Monica are working hard to present Kratos to this generation of gamers in a visually striking way.
Kratos in GOW 3 will comprise four times more polygons than his PS2 model. Add to this some amazing particle effects, moving titans in the background and you will get a game that will put a lot of blockbuster movies to shame.
- MGS: Rising:
While we haven’t seen any footage for this game, Kojima Productions assistant producer Sean Eyestone, has said that the team is remaking Rising’s engine “from scratch” to make it look better than MGS4. Look better than MGS 4? bring it on.
- Crysis 2:
Crysis 2 is an upcoming video game developed by Crytek, published by Electronic Arts, due for release on Microsoft Windows, Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3. It will be the first game to use the new CryEngine 3, which will bring the most advanced visuals for all platforms.
The first game on PC is one of the most visually stunning games ever made, and the new engine will undoubtedly make the pretty even prettier.
- Alan Wake:
Remedy Entertainment stirred the hype when they announced Alan Wake in 2005 as an exclusive for XBox 360, Since then, the game has undergone numerous delays and re-workings in both the main character’s appearance and the overall art-style of the game. But fear no more, the game will be released in spring next year.
Remedy managing director Matias Myllyrinne has said that Alan Wake is “all done, we’re just polishing at this point.” The game is already looking amazing with photo realistic environments, great lightning effects, and well crafted and animated character models.
- Heavy Rain
The first thing that comes to mind when someone speaks of this game are the graphics. The game look so realistic with lots of details in the environment and possibly the best looking character models in the business. what can I say more about this game? Stunning.
- Assassin Creed 2:
Ubisoft has been working hard on this title and believe me, you will be totally impressed this time around. The game renders some of the most beautiful places (Venice and Florence) on earth accurately and with lots of care and love.
The game engine has improved from the first game with Features added include a full night and day cycle, enhanced draw distance, the same vegetation technology used in Far Cry 2, improved lighting, reflection and special effects.
- Lost Planet 2:
Lost Planet 2 will be running on the MT-Framework 2.0, an updated version of the engine used in Resident Evil 5. Lost Planet 2 will be better, bigger and more visually impressive than the original game. Also, the game varied environments and the huge Akrid bosses will make the game nicer to the eye.
- Mass Effect 2:
Although the first game does have a lot of technical issues such as texture pop up/in and the unstable frame rate, it’s still one of the best looking games on the Xbox 360. But now, those problems are something of the past, as Bioware seems to have addressed all of those problems in the sequel.
The characters in Mass Effect 2 will be more detailed not only graphically, but technically. In the original Mass Effect, Commander Shepard only had 20 animations for cover, while in Mass Effect 2, the character has over 200. The world will also be more open-ended in this installment; with beautiful vistas to explore and ugly aliens to kill.
-Splinter Cell: Conviction:
Sam Fisher next adventure could be his best. The game is screaming quality, with new gameplay elements like the ‘Mark and Execute’ which makes the game more cinematic and faster paced.
The game presentation look sleek with Dynamically-tilting camera angles make the game feel like it’s a shakycam film during the game’s most poignant moments, while its new “projected objective” system shows your current goals on walls, mirrors, buildings, and floors. The visuals are great, the environment is much closer, more confined. Ubisoft you have a winner here.
- The Last Guardian:
The Last Guardian is Fumito Ueda latest invention, the man behind two of the most creative games ever made, Ico and Shadow of the Colossus. What makes Ueda games so impressive graphically isn’t the technical aspect only, it’s the phenomenal artistic design that makes his games stand out from the crowd of games.
The great animation of the feathery creature, the attention to details in the game world, and the great atmosphere will make this game an experience like no other.

GT 5 graphics are amazing. But I don’t want to mention any driving game on this list. Regarding FF versus 13, The game uses the same engine (Crystal Tools) that’s powering FF 13, and I preferred to pick FF 13 because it’s more recognized and it will be released soon.

I saw alan wake’s new footage shown at EGS 2009 and the graphics are a huge laugh… The enviroments start appearing when you’re really close to them XD its hilarious

They will not downgrade the engine to run Crysis 2 on PC, why would they do that? They will do that for the console versions.
Crysis 2 will look better on PC, no doubt about it.

Why didn’t you want to include a driving game on the list, anyway? Just curious, since I think Gran Turismo 5 deserves to be on there. I don’t really agree with Rising being on the list, but I see why you put it. I agree with a large part of the list, but something just feels missing…

Crysis 2 will be downgraded for the consoles, but I suspect it will still be best looking console game, for PC…well…nothing else stands a chance. Frankly despite it being 3 years old Crysis still boasts pretty much the best graphics of any game.
(Yes it comes at the cost of a $1000 PC, but that has nothing to do with if it has best graphics)
Oh, and GT5 should be on there. Alan Wake was once graphical maddness, but now it is not PC the graphics have gone, well…

I picked ACII because of the attention to detail. Plus the fact that there are two or three huge cities to explore with hundreds or NPCs and the PC all with detailed animation. I also picked it because nothing else interests me…

Final Fantasy Versus XIII looks to be 10 times (Or even 13 times) the game XIII will be, in terms of graphics, gameplay and characters.
The reason Forza 3 wasn’t included is probably cause it has some of the most laughable graphics in the world. It looks like the graphics were hand – drawn by a blind man, especially if you compare it to Gran Turismo 5.

Most of these games are avg engines with superb art direction. They’re not technically proficient. GT 5 and Rage should be on this list.

ummmm alan wake graphics arnt great at all. the cutscenes look standard for these newer games and gameplay graphics are nothing at all special.
where the hell is gran turismo 5??? and ratchet and clank a crack in time? looks like a damn pixar movie. its unreal.
and mgs4 was known for graphics when it released. and their still great. but the world was gritty too and didnt have a lot of color. (kinda like gears of war, though it still looked better) so mgs rising looking a little better isnt THAT big of a deal. but if they do they really need to cut back on cutscenes. if 360 couldnt handle mgs4, how can it handle rising?

Looking forward to Alan Wake more than any of those titles, its character models are on par if not better than most of this generations’ titles, its the lighting and environments that blow everything else out of the water. (not counting visuals on pc, they have the best hardware)

Nothing is fun about the game its a very boring game, graphics to a certain level they cool but not blowing at all!!!

Agree with the people claiming the lack of Rage here.
But why do people think GT5 will blow them away graphically. The game is an incremental step over GT5:P which we’ve all seen, and since Forza 3 already showed how much better it handles a detailed world I don’t see how people can actually look back at GT5 and be really impressed.

Guy, would have to disagree.
I’ve played full game of forza3, and GT5P, both have a different look.
But Forza3 lacks details of GT5P, yes forza3 looks good on the environment, but the cars look poor compared to GT5P.
I could provide screenshots, but you already know this.
Handling your wrong again.
GT5P Devs drive everycar they include in their game. and also has full telemetry for all cars and every other detail, so the real drive would be GT5P – GT5.
Forza3 is still a top game for 360, but is more arcadey, with rewind feature included as standard.

Saying that Forza 3 looks like it was drawn by a blind man makes you sound blind yourself. Exaggerate much? Perhaps you can make a case that GT5 has better graphics, but what you’re saying is like saying $98 should be rounded down to $1 when compared to $100. Why? Because $100 is better, anything below that is just worthless trash right? Even then, not one GT5 fan has used any figures or specs to back up their claim that it has superior graphics, it’s all been entirely opinion based at that.
Oh, and to the ignoramus who said Half Life 2 is ‘the most famous FPS in the world’ learn the definition of fame. I can call my mother right now and ask her two simple questions to disprove your huge reach of a statement. I would simply ask “Have you heard of Half Life 2? No? Have you heard of Halo? Yes?” If you want to talk about fame than Halo takes the cake, CoD coming in close second when you simply ask “Which is more well known?” I seriously doubt Half Life 2 is even in the top 5 most famous FPS games right now.
I don’t know why I even read comments anymore, all I ever see is rampant fanboyism. “My favorite game wasn’t included, your opinions don’t matter because they didn’t agree with my ‘factual’ opinion.” or the never ending console bashing, which I hate to say is almost entirely directed from PS3 owners to 360 owners and rarely the other way around. Also yes, obviously my comments about Forza 3 was facts mixed in with a slight bit of exaggeration but it doesn’t change the fact that GT5 still looks better.
Also, you saying that 360 owners rarely compete in the fanboy wars is complete BS – it was 360 owners that started the freaking fanboy wars. Go look at ANY article regarding a PS3 exclusive game – look in the comments section and you’ll see a load of pathetic, poor little morons talking trash because we can afford something they can’t. It makes me glad that i never bought a 360 – at least Wii and PS3 fans know how to communicate properly.

As far as realistic graphics, its Crysis 2, hands down. Because its one of Cryteks’ main goals, just see for yourself– will they get carried over form the pc? who the F&%@ knows they sure takin’ their sweet ass time. The runner up is undeniably Heavy Rain, since its a “cinematic experience” not that I really like that term, because games are not supposed to be like movies.
Here’s my personal opinion: PC’s and Consoles aren’t powerfull’ enough to achieve a photorealistic game in its entirety, thats why I prefer games that balance great graphics whith unique stlyle, such as Final Fantasy. Why? you say. Because in 10 years Crysis, the most realistic, will not be so intriging’ just like Heavy Rain [Not Bashing], but FFXIII can include other cool things, like great gameplay/storyline. I still enjoy a good FFVII and VIII if I can spare the time.

I think rising will suck in graphics . its multiplatform and the X360 is limited . and the disc spaese isnt enought. and the rule is the same that microsoft invent . that the the ps3 and X must be eqwells > and the pc must rule
