Borderlands Xbox 360 version is on fire while PS3 version is struggling
This month has been very crowded with the release of some of the biggest hitters this year. Exclusive Games such as Uncharted 2 and Forza 3 are currently enjoying great success in all regions. But what had caught my attention when I saw the latest worldwide sales figures from VGchartz.com is the poor sales of the PS3 version of Borderlands.
The Xbox 360 version has managed to sell three times more copies than the PS3 version. In its first week, the Xbox 360 version did a very respectful number with (299,283) copies sold while the PS3 version has managed to sell a mere (93,905) copies.
The reason for the poor sales of the PS3 version of Bordrlands could be due to the Online issues, including broken Friends list functionality. If the first patch (and the upcoming patches) has been able in fixing these issues, it could help the PS3 version to regain better sales in the future.

srsly what gay failure of an article the ps3 version may suck but that mainly because.. oh i dunno – ermm maybe sony just released the best looking console game on the planet a few weeks ago…

tanskeh is a sony fanboy lol, what a faggot, he probably teared up when reading this

The other problem Borderlands has on PS3 is that it launched a week after Uncharted 2. If someone is buying one of those games Borderlands is going to lose out.
Posted on October 31st, 2009 at 7:19 pm
its coz teen with xblocks are buying mainly fps games.

in EU the PS3 Copy sells very good

With the PS3 starting to stretch it’s legs now that it’s architecture is getting the attention it deserves, the last thing most of us need is another botched 360 port.
I look at this and feel cheated by multi platform ports.

Ever stopped to think that the the PS3 version seems to lag behind is that the PS3 has got Drake’s 2 going for it as well at the same time.

Gears of War 2 had online problems and sold a lot with no mentioning of it in reviews, why would this be different on the PlayStation 3?
Posted on October 31st, 2009 at 7:46 pm
Reasons why Borderlands ps3 version didn sell that good:
Forza 3 = Driving game -> dont sell that much as fps games so compared that to ps3 which just had U2 which is one of the highest rated game in this gen its no suprise that borderlands didnt sell that well.

omg not this shit website again/
Posted on October 31st, 2009 at 7:55 pm
fail article once again, uncharted 2 is the #1 choice for PS3 owners at the moment, just remember that.
Posted on October 31st, 2009 at 8:00 pm
@ SANDRIN
Uncharted 2 is doing great regarding sales, but I don’t think it should affect the sales of Borderlands like this. Xbox 360 exclusives such as Halo 3: ODST and Forza 3 are selling huge amount of copies, but in the same time Borderlands is selling more copies than Forza 3.
The online portion of Borderlands is what make the game fun to play. When the PS3 version does have some online issues, it certainly will affect the sales of the PS3 version. Also, people do prefer to play games on Xboxlive over PSN. That’s in my opinion why Borderlands is doing better numbers on Xbox 360.

@ TX3
Gears of War 2 was a key title for Microsoft in the holiday and it’s one of the biggest franchises on Xbox 360. Did you saw the difference now?

?? Where is my comment???
Posted on October 31st, 2009 at 8:20 pm
As others say, the effect of it getting crowded out by Uncharted 2 will have certainly hurt the sales. I think that 360 games are generally more keen on shooters and online games, and the USP of this game is the co-op and so that feature is likely to appeal to the 360 user base more. The fact that is a co-op centric game like this is going to make people who own both 360s and PS3s get it on 360 as their friends are on Live too, so that is partially why the PS3 version is struggling. I think the poor quality port will hurt sales, but that alone would not make such a large difference
Posted on October 31st, 2009 at 8:20 pm
Ok fine…here ill say it again…and a little nicer.. PS3 has so many great exclusives that the Xbox 360 has to rely on multiplatform games to get by… PS3 is NOT struggling, and actually 360 must be if they need articles like this to make it look better! PS3 FTW!!!!
Posted on October 31st, 2009 at 8:24 pm
Aside from the online issues, it might also be due partly to the fact that PS3 owners are choosing to spend their money on Uncharted 2 instead, whereas Borderlands doesn’t have much competition in the same time period (at least not in the shooter genre).
Posted on October 31st, 2009 at 8:33 pm
ps3 owners have uncharted 2 and ratchet 2 to look forward to . xfaers have no games and this is why they buy borderlands
Posted on October 31st, 2009 at 8:53 pm
I think most of the guys give a combination of reasons for PS3 sales lower that 360…besides the great exclusives across all genres that PS3 owners had on offer this year including the recently UC2…there’s tekken, assassin’s creed 2, modern warfare 2 and bayanetta that they have to still choose from…i’ve also seen a quite a few ps3 buddies buying it for PC because of the lower cost….
Posted on October 31st, 2009 at 9:25 pm
Look at the PS3 exclusives that have come out recently: NGS2, Uncharted2, Ratchet ACiT, Demon’s Souls. Those are the reasons that Borderlands isn’t selling as well on PS3, because of those other exclusives, that’s the only reason I haven’t bought Borderlands, because I still need to purchase some of those games: but Borderlands looks and plays awesome on my friends 360 so i can assure you that many more people will be getting the game on PS3 after they’ve purchased the PS3 exclusives coming out now, as am I.
Posted on October 31st, 2009 at 9:30 pm
^ Look at all these faggot fanboys: sure its true that PS3 owners have other games to look forward to like Uncharted2 and Ratchet, which are both awesome
but you guys don’t have to be such assholes about it and act like a bunch of fanboys! Just state the facts, then state your opinions (w/o bias), then go play your games.
Posted on October 31st, 2009 at 9:36 pm
I bought Uncharted 2 the week before, but that didn’t stop me from buying Borderlands on the Xbox the next week. Everytime a ps3 game is slow in sales, the fan boys come out and try to use every exclusive title as an excuse. The only one that may have an effect is Uncharted. You are kidding yourself if you think Ratchet and Clank or Demon Souls are major exclusives that would have any effect on the Borderlands sales. The truth is when it comes down to multiplatform games, more people my them on the xbox. Especially is there is any online functions involved.

What the hell?
How can you state your opinion without bias? An opinion is ALWAYS biased.

I agree that the main reason Borderlands isnt selling too hot on the PS3 is because of Uncharted 2.
With that being said, I would like to know how many copies of Borderlands Steam, alone, sold. Im assuming more than 360 and PS3 combined. This game is so fun, combining RPG and FPS totally works. I bought this game for the PC for 2 reasons: MUCH better graphics and the mouse/keyboard interface that destroys console controllers.
1 thing that has been bothering me since reading the comments is that people keep saying that the 360 is a more FPS-game console than anything else. I agree. Keep in mind I own a 360 and nothing else (Besides my badass comp). I would like to know what genre the PS3 is mostly into. RPG? RTS? I always thought the PS3 was a more FPS-gaming console than anything else. If it isnt mostly FPS games then it has got to be a pretty even cut-off of FPS(First Person Shooter) and TPS(Third Person Shooter).
Correct me if im wrong.
Posted on October 31st, 2009 at 11:23 pm
The other reasons…..
1. people are still playing Uncharted 2 (which is excellent!)
2. the game is too similar to Fallout3 and we’ve just had a load of DLC for Fallout3 (finally).
Maybe sales will pick up later on because it looks like a pretty good game
Posted on October 31st, 2009 at 11:57 pm
Yeah, Uncharted being released within a week of this game couldnt have had ANYTHING to do with this. I bought both, most people cant. Ughhh what a garbage artice.
Posted on November 1st, 2009 at 12:12 am
I understand that people are trying to blame poor ps3 slaes on the release of Uncharted 2, and that could possibly be the reason. But, lest we not forget that Halo3ODST also just released a few weeks ago and is selling in the millions, yet 360 owners still also bought Borderlands. The reason is as it always has been, 360 attach rate is 3x higher than ps3. In other words, 360 owners buy more games per capita than do any other system owners/users. Multiplatform games always sell better on 360 and it has little to do with the sell of exclusive games.
Posted on November 1st, 2009 at 12:43 am
Patrick and others, don’t be blind fanboyz (the only one always talking about fanboyz when guyz are stating the truth), it’s a real good reason to talk about great exclusives, ps3 has way better games since two years, and people can’t buy all of them.
Posted on November 1st, 2009 at 12:45 am
Well PS3 (only) owners better start buying more games if they hope to sway developers/publsihers to produce more software and put more effort into efficiently using the (more involved) hardware.
Regarding BORDERLANDS: I am fortunate enough to have all most each console made available and simple things like a botched online experience prevent me from investing too heavily into PS3. As much as I fear my 360 kicking it (again) it’s 90% safer to get that version of a game. ( Prior to a proper OF:DR comparison I went with 360 and needless to say I chose correct).
Posted on November 1st, 2009 at 1:04 am
cause there isn’t any games dropping for xbox, only forza 3and thats it, i just got uncharted still need demon souls and then rachet and clank, and thats just this month. if i had a xbox borderlands would be my purchase. so its not that its worse on ps3 there are just more games to buy besides third party titles. i will get borderlands when i have time to play it. xbots forget ps3 gets more games than just third party titles.
Posted on November 1st, 2009 at 1:14 am
It doesn’t take a genius to realize that the reason Borderlands isn’t selling on the PS3 is that Uncharted 2 just came out a couple of weeks ago… and CODMW2 is also coming out in a couple of weeks… people aren’t made of money.
The game MAY be great, but people will obviously go with the more popular product.
Posted on November 1st, 2009 at 1:14 am
the reason the ps3 version is doing so badly, ps3 owners hate the fact the dumbed down the grapics, so it would fite on the x box. Look at the first trailers released then look at the crappy looking game. Ps3 owners have better games to play, unlike x-box owners.
I do own both PS3 and X-box
Posted on November 1st, 2009 at 3:17 am
Uncharted 2 took all its sales.
Posted on November 1st, 2009 at 3:44 am
It seem like many are saying that PS3 owners are buy just UC2 and the xbox360 don’t have any games out but why is Borderland and Forza 3 and halo 3 all selling very well. It seem to me that 360 owner can choose games that cover all gameing type where the PS3 don’t.(at the time this month the games were release) There 3 xbox 360 good games compared to one good PS3 game. You do the math.
and remember that 2 out of the 3 games or on the 360 only. If borderland is a good game why is not selling on the PS3. Can;t they get both games or are they so in love with UC2 that other games don’t mean sh*t cause it on the 360 too. And if PS3 owners keep doing that , they will notice that many games might not come to the PS3. Sells mean everything. If games like Borderland don’t sell well on the PS3 why would game companies want to send the money on making for that system.PS3 owners keep saying there no games on the 360 but it seem the games on there sell well.

I’ve got borderlands and Uncharted 2, the online of borderlands works quite well on the PS3. Its simple enough, you just join someone who is already playing, or host your own and let anyone come join. Even though it didn’t sell that well, the people who did buy it must all play online as there is always a lot of people on when i play. And its not just uncharted 2, brutal legend also has an online component, also there is Fifa 10. The online race is well and trully on. Quick note, people who buy 360’s obviously love FPS so it no suprise Borderlands sold well (not dissing 360 because i like FPS but most of the games on 360 that are any good are FPS, well untill FFXIII comes anyway, hopefully).

Who cares. Borderlands is a boring game. The PS3 has a lot of games coming out that are a lot better. I guess the 360 doesn’t. I don’t see what’s so good about that game. What’s the big deal?
Posted on November 1st, 2009 at 7:32 am
2 reasons. Uncharted 2, Demon’s Souls.
Posted on November 1st, 2009 at 8:42 am
Seriously, this site is the worst shit Iv’e ever seen linked on N4G, it’s a Sociological trend of having Uncarted 2 to pick over this, while XB360 gamers have shit till COD. Stop posting articles on N4G, you’re all a waste of space.
Posted on November 1st, 2009 at 9:10 am
uncharted 2 or Borderlands???
thats why!
Posted on November 1st, 2009 at 9:24 am
what did you expect?
i think it was quite obvious this was going to happen, the PS3 had ninja gaiden sigma 2, deamon souls, uncharted 2 and ratchet and clank a crack in time come out in october.
the only exclusive the 360 had is forza 3.
that and the ps3 version has so many bugs it puts mercenaries 2 to shame.
i bought my copy on release day, installed the game, got up to the part just after you choose your character than got a message saying the game data is corrupt and i need to delete and reinstall it.
that happened to me 6 friggin times in a row.
than finally after the 7th install it worked no problems, played it for 10 hours turned it off, next day played it again for 10 hours or so than turned it off.
next day turned it on, tried to load my save data but could not because it was corrupt.
FOR FU*** SAKE WHAT ELSE CAN GO WRONG?
so i deleted it, started again, spent 3 or so hours turned it off, turned it back on later that night AND AGAIN THE FUC**NG THING CORRUPTED MY SAVED DATA YET A FU**ING AGAIN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
not only is the co-op and friends list fu***d
the freaking game itself is completley fu**ed!
maybe thats why its not selling to well.
im really super mega pissed, 110 bucks down the drain.
this is the last gearbox software game i will ever buy.
im sick to death of developers being so fu***ng lazy for fu**s sake how hard is it to make sure your game runs smoothly.
its simple if your game keeps fu***ng up DELAY IT!
thats not so hard, is it?
im sick to death of this “meh we can patch it later” attitude it fu**ing stinks!
a letter to all developers.
IF YOU CANT BE FU**ED MAKING SURE YOUR GAME WORKS PERFECTLY ON EVERY! SYSTEM FU** OFF, I DONT WANT YOUR GAMES, I HAVE BETTER THINGS TO WASTE MY MONEY ON, THAN A FU***NG GAME THAT DOES NOT WORK!
im coming to the state where i only buy exclusives from now on, because there the only games that fu**ing work!
Posted on November 1st, 2009 at 12:11 pm
You bums just get a job and buy all the games. I’ve got UC2, Demons souls and borderlands because i worked for em and didnt wana miss out. Now the only problem i have is spending time with the games. Its like having 3 girlfriends at once…..and then you know that your gonna get 3 more girlfriends very soon (MW2, AC2, God Of War collection)

According to VGChartz, I know not the most reliable sales info, Pro Evolution Soccer 2010 is doing amazing on the PS3. How well? Well their numbers indicate that the PS3 version has sold almost 350 thousand units, compared to the Xbox counterpart sitting at 113 thousand units. Well below all the top games on the list.
As you can see from what i put above, it is swings and roundabouts in the console game sales.
Although borderlands is not selling very good according to VGChartz, everywhere else is saying how good it is selling. And the game IS better on PS3 than the 360 in graphics department. Once the PS3 gets it’s patch for online gaming people might buy it.
Anyway look at japan sales of the game called Bayonetta, that alone sold 93 000 on PS3 while only only 45 000 on 360 console. Same as tekken, that sold 79 000 on PS3 while only selling 22 000 on the 360 in japan.
Uncharted 2 still has high sales and its been out for a few weeks, plus its about to break 2 million sales. 9 Maybe this is why b-lands hasn’t sold as good as it could have.
So before people like the OP starts showing how bad game sales have been, maybe they should look at other games sales to see if thats why a game isn’t selling good.
PS3 has more choice in games ( as shown above by uncharted 2 sales ) which could effect other games from selling.
Posted on November 1st, 2009 at 3:00 pm
thats because PS3 owners have better games to buy. (Uncharted 2, Ratchet and Clank: Future A Crack In Time)
Posted on November 1st, 2009 at 11:58 pm
So funny when reading all these PS3 fanboys crying and blaming the failure on U2’s release, because Halo 3 ODST sold like fucking hot cakes and A LOT better than U2, and you don’t see 360 games lagging in sales.
It’s okay, just keep telling yourself that.
Posted on November 3rd, 2009 at 12:22 am
Been too busy playing Demon’s Souls to give a crap about that game.
Posted on November 3rd, 2009 at 4:30 am
@ George.
ODST didn’t sell as good as MS hoped for. But what about ODST and they way it was made..
Example..
The game only took 5 hours to complete. The graphics were last gen compared to other games being released. Plus it was just a very expensive add-on to the HALO 3 game. Which ( from the disc size ) could have been DLC from XBL for a much cheaper price.
The game was a rushed job and every REAL Halo fan will tell you this, and that they were not happy with the add-on.
