During an interview session at Gametrailers.com with the director (David Cage) of the upcoming PS3 exclusive Heavy Rain, the infamous director revealed some new info about his game and how it will handle trophies. The game will display trophies during loading screen, the reason for that is to not distract the player from being attached to the emotional scenes featured in the game. But what is more interesting is when the interviewer asked him about who he think is the most interesting videogames author in the industry. The director answered:

“I think one of the most interesting author right now in the videogames industry is probably Fumito Ueda. I’m totally unable to do what he does, because I think it’s really unique and its his world and his vision and I really admire him for that. I mean what he done in Ico and Shadow of the Colossus is absolutely fantastic”.

You heard the man, he is a big fan of Ueda’s games and I think he is as much hyped as you to play Ueda’s next masterpiece, The Last Guardian.

i like kojima, but i will have to agree with cage on this one…ico and shadow of the colossus both have, in my opinion, wiped the floor with conventional gameplay elements/styles and embraced truly epic and original concepts for games that will never be mimicked. unless kojima gives the mgs series a rest, he will be known as the next miyamoto (in a series sense, being known as the “mario or mgs” guy)…though again, i like kojima and am not in any way taking from his credibility as a designer of truly hall of fame class of games; ueda deserves the most credit.

I never really liked Ico or Shadow Of The Colossus. I’d have to say Hideo Kojima is the most interesting author in the games industry.

  5. avatar RaduN Said,

I am on the Kojima side as well. His games and stories are so deep and full of hidden yet incredibly relevant messages and symbols that i don’t think anyone really “got” them all. Not to mention some of the most incredible 4th wall breaking moments ever concieved.

Ueda is great (really great) as well, just not on the same level i’m afraid.

  6. avatar mantas Said,

@RaduN: To each his own, Ueda is still more original and can do magic without the use of overly long unnecessary cutscenes…oh and the brilliant graphics that take you to another world. Kojima cannot do the same. Very limited in that aspect. And just to make sure everyone’s on the same page; game sales don’t matter when it comes to art.

wow at all the praise that the piece of crap hack hideo kojima is getting LOL.
He writes C level movie stories and after playing through godawful mess that is MGS4 I am pretty sure he has absolutely no idea what he is doing. He is a wannabee movie director, a failed one at that and makes pathetic excuse for games to fulfill his failed ambition as a movie director. Pathetic. Those of you who think kojima writes deep layered, profound work please go read a fucking book. By the way Kojima is a huge fan of twilight (no joke) i suggest starting there.
