I’m anticipating Red Dead Redemption the most (partly because it’s not light-years from release). I’ve read RDR will boast an open world environment which will dwarf GTA IV’s Liberty city. The idea of seasons and weather changes appeals to my sensibilities too.

I’m also eager to jump into Mafia II whilst hoping the missions aren’t too linear and roaming doesn’t prove dull, with little to do. And of course GTA 5.

With any luck, sandbox/open world games are on the rise. GTA IV was a real ‘coming of age’ for console gaming in my experience and personally I find 3 ingredients (actually, make that 4) that really define a good game:
- the freedom to roam
- custom character generation (appearance, clothes etc)
- the setting (ie. somewhere that appeals)
- and the 4th? playing through a well constructed story that allows for variables in player choices

Anyway, enough waffle: MORE SANDBOX / OPEN WORLDS PLEASE

Guy – are you mentally retarded? What’s wrong with people voting for Infamous 2 if they like it? Obviously you’re just one of those moronic 360 fanboys who can’t handle the fact that the 360 has no decent exclusives and gets enraged when good exclusives are recognized as such on other consoles, get a life you moron.

Also, while you’re at it, do some research on the videogame industry before posting. Infamous 2 was confirmed to be in development about a month ago you ignorant fanboy.

Just in case you’re wondering……….i actually voted for GTA: V. I thought Infamous was fantastic but not good enough to challenge the GTA franchise.

It’s basically just the consequence of N4G linked sites are trolled with the highest number PS stupid fanboys. Actually voting for a PS3 exclusive that is not even announced, and is a sequel to an average game can’t have any other possible reason.

I believe the top upcoming sandbox game is going to be Rage, but unfortunately it’s not here in the list, because some editors prefer to put in made up games. In this list it’s probably Mafia 2 I’d vote for.

this, platformers and combat car games are 3 genres we dont have enough off.
im sick of the million and one FPS.
im sick of the million and one TPS.
im sick of the million and one racing games.
im sick of the million and one music games.
open world styled games like GTA or saints row or INFAMOUS! are my favorite genre.
same with platformers i mean we have 3 series.
uncharted, ratchet and clank and tomb raider.
no where near enough.
same for car combat games, when was the last game that allowed you to drive around and destroy other cars ala crash bandicoot team racing.
o and speaking of open world games, the getaway and 8 days better see a release date, if sony canceled them for fucking eyepet im going to go mental.
if i wanted a crappy kiddy motion controlled game i would get a wii, i did not spend 1K on my launch ps3 so i could play with a fluffy pet!
