MGS4 one of the most if not the most important PS3′s Exclusive of all time, and Hideo Kojima really amazed us all with his exceptional masterpiece back in June 2008.

Hideo kojima raised the bar in every video gaming aspect in MGS4 with a well woven story to mind blowing visuals, alongside an innovated gameplay animations. Now a year has passed since MGS4 was first released, and to this day MGS4 still owns the PS3 exclusive crown, being the most successful PS3 exclusive both critically and sales wise.

Now, A serious threat for MGS4 PS3 exclusive crown is already out and in his large footsteps to glory, Nathan really has a good chance to capture what solid snake kept hard for the previous 17 months and guess what Microsoft can’t play around this time and we will never see one of Naughty Dog’s producers introduced in the E3 2010! So can Nathan really do it?

uncharted_2 590 vgarabia

Uncharted 2: among thieves is forcing its way to be a true winner over any other videogame this year, and with all the critical success it has already gained, the game would face little problems in capturing the GOTY -Game Of The Year- 2009 award, and from the all things we already saw in Uncharted 2: among thieves, few of us will have doubts over it’s quality, and if you ask me, UC2 has without a doubt got all what it takes to be labeled as “The Best Game in the Current generation!!”

Snake visited us only once on the HD screens through MGS4, and even with Metal Gear Rising on its way for both Xbox 360 & PS3 the chance of his appearance is still uncertain, still In my opinion Nathan will never have what snake has as a unique gaming character and even if Uncharted 2 gained bigger sales success Snake will still have the upper hand when it comes in comparing between their personalities as gaming characters, but being a 100% PS3 loyal gaming character –at least for now- Nathan is not far from being the true new PS3 symbol! That is at least until we see if Kratos has anything to say about that.

Wow, is this even a contest? Snake’s a veteran in the gaming industry and has participated in far more and better games than Drake. Don’t get me wrong, I really like Uncharted but it pales in comparison to Metal Gear.
Btw, Kratos would be even worse, now that would be just lame to have as a symbol….

Nathan Drake is a better and more likable hero, the metal gear games aren’t nearly as exciting as Uncharted, don’t get me started on Kratos… Kratos is the best all around hero to come out of video games ever, there fore, bernardo is a moron. G’day!

  6. Zero Said,

Kratos a symbol of the ps3? I’m sorry what? His game isn’t even out yet.. Fuck off with that shit :P

In my mind Snake is and will be for some time the symbol of the ps3, if not sony. His character is much deeper than drake, much more likeable and in a fight? Snake would rip his head off. Solid Snake has been in the gaming industry for over 20 years, he’s a gaming icon! and drake has had, what?.. a 2year stretch? Give me a break, why wont everyone see both uncharted games for what they are? Sure they both showed the power of the ps3, showcasing brathtaking visuals (U2 is the best looking console game to date) but really, the gameplay is very shallow. It’s a 3rd person cover shooter coupled with a platfoming aspecting that really isnt platforming becasuse of its safe scripted nature. The story is very weak, very cliched. Yes Drake is a very cool character, he beats the baddies, saves the day and gets the girl. But snake actually has depth. If you ask any old (im talking someone who called themselves a gamer before this gen of consoles.. so veterans of the industry) gamer, be it from PC, Xbox, Playstation or Nintendo, “Who is more of an icon: Nathan Drake or Solid Snake?” Nearly all will say Snake. They may not like the character but old gamers have the intergrity to admit stuff like that. and i know without a doubt none wuld say kratos is a bigger icon :P if you wanna go that route Dante is much bigger than him.

    Snake > Drake > Dante > Kratos

But i don’t expect anyone to understand because most of those who love uncharted only like it for its muscle bound, american hero, shallow shiney shit.

I did enjoy it though haha ^_^

  8. Puter Said,

To me, the new symbol of the PS3 should be someone who only appears for it. While “Old Snake” hasn’t appeared on anything but the PS3, younger Snake appeared on the Xbox and Snake is even playable on Super Smash Brothers Brawl on Wii. Mario, the symbol of Nintendo, wouldn’t appear on a non-Nintendo console. Master Chief wouldn’t appear for a non-Microsoft system.

I’m not saying Snake isn’t one of the greatest video game characters ever or that he is a worse character than Nathan Drake, because I absolutely think he is. But Snake or Old Snake is NOT the symbol of the PS3. I don’t think the PS3 has one central symbol. But if you had to choose, my choices would not include Snake, old or not. Kratos, Nathan Drake, and Ratchet would be better choices, though my personal choice would be Sackboy from LittleBigPlanet.

Kratos, if done nicely, would be a nice symbol for PS3, why? Kratos is a beast, just like the PS3 is a mean piece of hardware, Kratos is a beast killing. Kratos and PS3 have a lot in common.

  12. Guy Said,

Sackboy is the PS3 “symbol” (I think you wanted to write “mascot”).
I think Sony used it as a semi-parody of their fans: It represents all the feeble minded PS3 fanboys who will change opinions (or costumes) all the time based on how exclusive a game is to the PS brand.

  13. Paul Said,

If I liked smug moustached aging heroes that much I’d have bought a Wii.

As Japanese developers have westernised their games, they have lost some of the quirky identity that attracted people to them in the first place. It was a shame to let Crash Bandicoot slide in to obscurity – there was proper platforming in those games, not the pseduo-platforming sci-fi shooter of Ratchet and Clank.

It’s not so much Nathan Drake that deserves to be regarded as the mascot of the PS3 as just the Uncharted series itself.

‘and guess what Microsoft can’t play around this time and we will never see one of Naughty Dog’s producers introduced in the E3 2010! ‘

I hope that you realise that that this part makes no sense.

Nathan Drake has already surpassed Solid Snake……….get over it.

Although as far as i’m concerned Jak & Daxter will always be Sony’s main mascots.

Still……whoever you like, just be gald your mascots aren’t a bunch of homo – erotic space marines who like to chop aliens in half with a chain saw before making out on top of the pile of guts on the floor like the 360 fanboys drool over…………..

Crash Bandicoot was definetly the original and arguably best Playstation mascot but as the series is no longer exclusive it wouldn’t make sense for him to be the face of the PS3.

Crash Bandicoot was a great series and mascot born for the PlayStation. All four games were brilliant, its just a shame it was let go and milked by a bunch of companies. Same goes for Spyro, the ones made for PS were brilliant but after that was let go too the rest sucked.

  19. ndgamefan Said,

snake/old snake is an experienced fighter. His character is very deep. He has fought many machines and villains along the way.
nathan drake is a young, modern hero who would probably vote for Snake. he’s just a normal funny guy. who can take out copters, tanks, snipers, grenade launchers, and lunatics.
so OLD SNAKE is the honor and respect of the ps3, whereas Drake is the ongoing hero.

Nathan Drake is certainly hotter (I’d do them pixels). lol. But I’m a big MGS fan, and plus Solid Snake is an experienced special ops soldier and mercenary who has a cause. Nathan is a treasure hunter with only basic combat skills. They’re both good characters in good franchises.. but..

    Gotta go with Snake!
