Ubisoft: Conviction not coming to PS3, maybe next game will
Sam Fisher’s upcoming adventure is shaping up to be an extraordinary experience. Xbox360 owners had the chance to play the game before its release through the recently released demo on Xbox Live. PC gamers still didn’t have the chance to try the game, but they will play the final version of the game next month. But what about a PS3 version of the game? Ubisoft said it before and now, Max Beland the creative director of Splinter Cell: Conviction has reconfirmed it once again: Splinter Cell: Conviction isn’t coming to the PS3.

Max Beland the Creative Director of Splinter Cell: Conviction discussed how they redefined the Splinter Cell franchise with Conviction in an interview with Industrygamers and how they made the game more accessible in an attempt to broaden the Splinter Cell audience. Although the developers of the game are aiming to broaden the Splinter Cell audience, he confirmed that Conviction won’t be released on PS3 in the future and it will remain exclusive to Xbox360:
Max Beland: Well, Splinter Cell was originally built on Xbox and we’ve had a great relationship with Microsoft. So Conviction is an exclusive for 360, it’s not going to go to PS3, and that’s interesting because it gives us some advantages. Our lead programmer was talking about it the other day and he said that when you’re focusing only on one platform you can really fine-tune everything for that platform. He gave the analogy of a race car – you could build a car to do Indy, Nascar and F1 but it probably wouldn’t win races in any of those. If you want to win the race you need to focus on one.
Although he reconfirmed that Conviction won’t be coming to Sony’s console, he has hinted that we might see the next installment in the series going multiplatform:
Max Beland: Now, are we going to see the next versions of Splinter Cell on other platforms? That I can’t answer, but there’s no reason why we wouldn’t go on other platforms. And other versions of Splinter Cell have been on multiple platforms.
So if you want to play the forthcoming game in the series, you have to choose between the Xbox360 or the PC version of the game, there isn’t a PS3 version in the works. Splinter Cell: Conviction will be released on April 13th in the US, April 15th in Europe and Australia and April 16th in the UK for Xbox360. A PC release is set to follow shortly after.

PS3 gamers aren’t missing out on anything. I was really hyped for this game until I actually played the demo. I cancelled my pre-order the next day. I was expecting so much from Conviction graphically and gameplay wise. What a letdown.

“So Conviction is an exclusive for 360, it’s not going to go to PS3, and that’s interesting because it gives us some advantages”
360? Advantages? Is it possible for those to words to co-exist within the same sentence? If anything, PS3 gives them much more opportunities than 360. Not opinion, but FACT. PS3 can handle Conviction times 2 and a half.
Posted on March 27th, 2010 at 4:48 am
That’s so stupid, why should Conviction 2 come out multiplatform? it’s like saying Halo 3 will come to ps3, how the hell will ps3 gamers know about the storyline from Halo 1 n 2!?
if conviction 2 should come to the ps3, then conviction should be ported to ps3!

F*ck Ubisoft, they can keep Splinter Cell for 360 only.
They’re taking this piss out of PS3 owners, its obvious Microsoft have flashed the cash yet again- all this talk of “advantages” is bullshit!
God of War 3 will do for me
Posted on March 27th, 2010 at 4:55 am
if we’re doing racing analogies then kojima productions is shumacher and ubisoft is …”Insert crap driver here” i dont know 1
Posted on March 27th, 2010 at 5:09 am
it will come to ps3 for sure, they just cant say it.remember the same thing was said about bioshock.
Posted on March 27th, 2010 at 6:11 am
Hey guys, don’t you think it’s funny that he said
“So Conviction is an exclusive for 360, it’s not going to go to PS3, and that’s interesting because it gives us some advantages. Our lead programmer was talking about it the other day and he said that when you’re focusing only on one platform you can really fine-tune everything for that platform.”
And then he said ”
there’s no reason why we wouldn’t go on other platforms. And other versions of Splinter Cell have been on multiple platforms.”
So does this mean that every other mutli-platform won’t be as refined? Is this the ultimate Slinter Cell!!!??? Lol!
As for me personally, I stopped caring for Splinter Cell back when they ditched the cool green night vision googles. That, my friends was Splinter Cell, HE was Sam Fisher…I honestly don’t know who the f@#k this fag is and I honestly don’t care…..Bring back shadows…..bring back stealth. This game is nothing like the orginal.
SPLINTER CELL CONVICTION = EPIC FAIL!!!!!
Posted on March 27th, 2010 at 6:20 am
Uhh..he meant advantages as in he can work fully on one console instead of two to fully program the game to that console. And the thing about these Playstation Fanboys is that everything gotta be based on graphics and not gameplay. Its not God of War or Killzone, Its Splinter Cell. Watch it be one of the funnest games this year.
You fanboys dont see the point of a game. Gameplay rules all. So keep your dildo looking fake wii control and your movie game and we’ll see you on Live
Posted on March 27th, 2010 at 6:34 am
slickback… we’ll keep our wii controller but can we have our playstation eye back???? also gameplay rules all??? i cant imagine playing the games today with crappy graphics…. who da fuck would wanna play a graphically sucky game??? gameplay does not rule all… theirs a balance n ps3 good at finding it… microsoft just pays big money
n when a game is reviewed im not sure if u noticed all the other categories instead of gameplay…. n god of war n killzone have good gameplay by the way if u hadn’t noticed…

Fuck Ubisoft and there Splinter Cell. I played the demo, nothing great.
Plus they took what I DID like from Double Agent which was the awesome Online.
Posted on March 27th, 2010 at 6:48 am
MGS4 > Any Splinter Game that is/coming out. Period.
Posted on March 27th, 2010 at 6:49 am
A piece of Chicken > Sam Fisher
Posted on March 27th, 2010 at 6:50 am
I’ll go as far to say; Master Chief (Who cooks some fine chicken) over Sam Fisher!!
Posted on March 27th, 2010 at 6:50 am
I know that slickback, but what happens when the next one goes MP? Those advantages are gone.
BTW I own both consoles and the PS3 pwns 360! I love Gears, but that’s about it. An honestly can you see yourself playing Halo with Natal? Dildo’s way more conventional. lolz
Posted on March 27th, 2010 at 6:52 am
Wow, what am I missing here, you guys are all so hostile what a bunch of fanboys, 360 has it’s exclusives, PS3 has its, why is that so horrible, and how come no one gets hurt feelings when Sony exclusive developers reaffirm that their games are not coming to 360?
that is good news but this is somehow because Ubi and MS are evil?
Posted on March 27th, 2010 at 7:28 am
This is crap especially when you hear the words “advantage” and “360″ exclusive…..another pr stuff for microsoft. And whatever score this game gets, i think i already expect something that starts w/ a B and ends w/ an S…..nope it’s not bullshit…..i already know what a great game is….as clear as day, whatever reviews it’ll get, it doesn’t count. As long as it’s a PS3 exclusive it’s all good and this one….is……NOT.
Posted on March 27th, 2010 at 9:24 am
I hate how ubisoft all of sudden made it exclusive….why make it exclusive in the first place? Why not make R6V exclusive? i bet you fine tweak that too….
They should be fair and make the Nexy Ghost Recon or Rainbow 6 a PS3 exclusive
Posted on March 27th, 2010 at 11:23 am
Even if I got to play a crappy port of the game on PS3 I would have been more than happy. I played and loved every SplinterCell game (and all Tom Clancy games in general) but just because Microsoft’s money is talking this time I’m going to miss out on this one.
It is just wrong to make a multi-platform game and make it exclusive all of a suden. If this is the way Ubisoft is going to treat their loyal Playstation supporters of the Tom Clancy games (like myself) they can go to hell
Posted on March 27th, 2010 at 1:18 pm
@ Spanky. I agree with you. If this game was coming out on the PS3 also, people will be like man this game is going to be great. It seem everyone that says it sucks are PS3 owners and are upset it not coming to their system. It like you beg for games like Bioshock and when the first one came and the Bioshock 2 came out the sale numbers did not show much. If most games sell more on the 360 over the PS3(not all but most do) no matter how powerful your system is, the making of money will always be more important.
Posted on March 27th, 2010 at 2:27 pm
This has been beaten to death. Keep your 570p game. Who the fuck wants another splinter cell.

“there’s no reason why we wouldn’t go on other platforms [in next version]”
Is it me is that not a contradiction?
My interpretation? Money from Microsoft…
Posted on March 27th, 2010 at 10:38 pm
Who care’s if it’s a 360 exclusive? PS3 gamers are not missing out on anything this time round – I own the rest of the series on the PC and will be adding this one to the collection.
It’s ironic they mention advantages and the ability to fine tune when it is without a doubt one of the worst looking exclusives I’ve ever seen. It holds the level of graphical quality that would make one suspect a multiplatform title – unpolished in so many places. Screen tearing, low resolution textures, poor animations (check out the bad lip animations in the demo) and a 576p resolution. Only PS3/360 game I’ve played with a resolution that low is Silent Hill Homecoming on PS3 and it too gave me a headache due to the excessive blur.
Granted the interrogation scene looks sharp, but as soon as you get into outdoor surroundings, the problems mentioned above become apparent.
Lastly, it’s really not an exclusive to brag about in my honest opinion. And it’s not a title I’d associate with any particular company – Splinter Cell is all about Michael Ironside for me!

stop complaining, get both systems. No money then STFU. is that simple
Posted on March 28th, 2010 at 2:42 pm
after seeing all the comments of ps3 owners, i think they are totally jealous, the kids don’t get to play great games like this one and also mass effect 2 and many other great games, they just keep on talking about god of war 3 so o suck kratos balls cause you ain’t gonna get to play conviction. Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha…………
Posted on March 28th, 2010 at 4:38 pm
Well, I’m a PS3 user and I love the Splinter Cell series. But I guess they don’t like my money..

who cares? really? this is the same tactic microsoft used in the beginin with gta4 when they felt threatened by their rival n tht game nvr lived up to the hype now they are doin it again with splinter cell which sucked after chaos theory. last time i checked pc was a different platform its just micorsoft monopolized. Maybe this cud make it a better game mite reach mgs4 level all the more better.
Posted on April 1st, 2010 at 3:21 pm
Hahaha! It’s so funny to read these comments from angry PS3 Fanboys!
It just made my day… If you’re all saying that MGS 4 is better than SC,so why are you even here? I bet that Sam could rip Snake’s head with one move. Ha ha ha. Thank you for the awesome game,Ubisoft. Can’t wait ’till April 13!
Posted on April 5th, 2010 at 5:05 am
MGS4>SPC.
yes. I just want to tell all of people here the truth.
seeya from japan.
Posted on April 10th, 2010 at 8:04 pm
Look I get so sick of fanboys of both systems…splinter cell will be a good game IN MY OPINION (because opinions are like assholes everyone has one) and I think that people who want to sit there and hate the game because its MS exclusive are dumb…that said people who want to make fun of ps3 owners for not being able to play it are in the same category of faggotry. ps3 has plenty of good games ur not missing much i for one loved God Of War III and am happy to own it as well as games like heavy rain and other exclusives. BUT i am also happy to be buying games like splinter cell conviction and alan wake this year as well as Gaylo: Reach Around which (despite my stupid name for it) looks like a damn good game. So you guys have fun fighting because the best of both worlds has never been better for me
Posted on April 11th, 2010 at 9:33 pm
WHYYYYY is it just this bloody game is going to be Xbox exclusive!?…Ubisoft are just being selfish bastards and that Max “Bell end” is just a big douchebag for saying the next splinter cell has no reason for why it shouldn’t be multi-platform!…conviction should be too!! fucking egg head!.
Posted on April 12th, 2010 at 11:01 pm
Huh, that sucks…
if the next game will be on PS3 as well, what’s the point? I mean, none of the PS3 players will know Conviction’s story so it’d be stupid to go back to multi-plat. after going exclusive all of a sudden. To be honest I hate all exclusivity in regards to PS3 and 360 games, I’d actually love it if more 360 gamers could play thing like heavy rain or the uncharted games or metal gear solid 4, and PS3 gamers could play left 4 dead or gears of war or whatever else. I see the point of it for the competing console companies, but for ubisoft being 3rd party… and this being not very long after a recession wouldn’t it be crazy not to produce games on multiple HD platforms?
Posted on April 13th, 2010 at 12:42 am
This is sad news
It would have made sense if Conviction had come out when it was supposed to (like, 2-3 years ago), but now that PS3 has actually picked up a great deal of momentum, it just doesn’t make sense… oh well, I guess I’ll just rent it and play at my friend’s house.
Posted on April 15th, 2010 at 10:39 pm
Ok.. I will preface this saying.. I OWN a 360 and a PC… although ALL of my gaming is done on the 360, my PC needs some major upgrades.. But.. these PS3 fans are funny to me. They COMPLAIN cause this game is exclusive? Hell.. I’d LIKE Hard Rain (not sure if its GOOD but from the same company who did Indigo Prophecy which was pretty great to me). But.. we don’t.. can’t.. its just not in the cards.. and how about Zelda.. and Super Mari.. oh yeah.. not those either.
Exclusives are designed to keep fans of a series loyal to a console.. much like the Ninja Gaiden games debuting on the X-BOX.. but people complaining about it being on PC and 360 and NOT PS3 seem to be missing the point. that it is MUCH MUCH easier to port between PC and 360 as they use alot of the same language, although I am sure some textures have to be lowered for the 360 as opposed to the PC..
still though alot of the APIs and graphical tricks and hooks that work on the PC can easily be moved over to the 360 where I hear though that programming for the PS3 is much more intensive, difficult and just a clear “pain in the butt” for developers.. meaning either a) the port takes LONGER to come out or b) just delays the game for ALL the systems just to complete the PS3 version.
This I blame on Sony for their proprietary system (this one is CLEARLY in their court). If they want to shape up for PS4.. then fine. but I keep hearing about just the aggrivation for the ports of games already practically done having to almost start from scratch to get it up and running on a PS3.. this just isn’t good business practice.
although.. I will agree though.. the statement about Conviction NOT being on PS3. but for some reason they could do the sequels cross platform? makes ZERO sense. although he could be referring to in the next 2 years (since if they JUMP from now to do it) they would have time to adapt the Unreal engine in Conviction to work on PS3.. and that engine would more than likely be the powerhouse behind the next chapters with some tweaks.

the hole older games for splinter cell have released on the ps2 and psp and ps3 so people who have a ps3 is waiting for this one to complete the collection and now its 360 & PC exclusive? they say it’s a relationship with microsoft that who made them not to release this on the ps3 are they sure microsoft haven’t pay them extra to not released this on the ps3? also sorry to say this but every body know that the ps3 can do a way lot better job than the 360.
