Multiplatform engines didn’t do the Xbox360 justice
Let’s face it. The PS3 has been kicking the Xbox360 ass in the visuals department in the last two years. While games such as Mass Effect 2 and Gears 2 are visually stunning games, the PS3 has been raising the bar visually with its biggest exclusives such as Metal Gear Solid 4, Uncharted 2, Killzone 2 and the recently released God of War 3.
The point I want to clarify here is, Mass Effect 2, which is the best looking game on Xbox360 is running on the Unreal Engine 3 (multiplatform engine). Most of all Xbox360 games (exclusives and multiplatform) do run on multiplatform engines. With most of the biggest exclusives on Xbox360 are powered by the Unreal Engine 3 (Mass Effect 2, Gears of War 2, Lost Odyssey and etc). Multiplatform engines are designed to run on multiple platforms, which means they aren’t created to take full advantage of a specific console/platform. Yes, we see games such as Mass Effect 2 look better than an average Unreal Engine 3 game. But that because of the developers who are creating the game. With better art design and better optimization, a game can look better than another even if they are running on the same engine.
This year, we are seeing Xbox360 exclusives running on new engines or to be more accurate, engines that created to take full advantage of Microsoft’s console. Halo: Reach looks so much better than Halo 3 and ODST, but the real star that showed what the Xbox360 is capable of is Remedy’s upcoming Psychological thriller, Alan Wake.
Alan Wake not just raising the bar for Xbox360 in term of visuals, it’s raising the bar for this whole generation. Technically and artistically, Alan Wake is shaping up to be the best looking game of this generation. From the real-time projected shadows produced by the essential flashlight, the total absence of aliasing, the breathtaking realistic lighting effects (the best I have ever seen), the epic scale of the environments, SSAO (Screen Space Ambient Occlusion), the atmospheric effects to the vegetation which interacts with characters and wind. Truly impressive stuff.
The best thing Sony did this gen is they let their first party devs to create games with one thing in mind: Taking full advantage of the PS3 power. That’s why we have been seeing PS3 exclusives looking better than Xbox360 games. Things are about to change now, as we are seeing games such as Alan Wake equaling or surpassing PS3 exclusives in term of visuals. And the most impressive thing is: Alan Wake is running on a $199 console with limited storage capacity (DVD9). It will be interesting to see what does Sony have up their sleeve at the upcoming E3.

I agree completely. But you’re about to have a flurry of Sony fanboys in here whining.
Good luck!

Fanboy anyone?
Posted on April 16th, 2010 at 6:38 pm
Now no matter what I say hear I’ll probably still be classed as a PS3 fanboy. But I’m not. I’m not going to come on here and say ‘Gaybox sucks, PS3 FTW’. But the way this article was written suggested that I would be amazed by what I saw, and don’t get me wrong, the graphics look great. Well, unless I see it on a great TV I won’t be able to say for sure, but I wasn’t that amazed by it. I don’t know that much about this game but I’m assuming the lighting has a big role to play, but at some points the lighting looked a bit unrealistic, especially when shining on Alen Wake himself. Now this is just an opinion so don’t start calling me a PS3 fanboy.
Posted on April 16th, 2010 at 6:56 pm
I have a ps3 and the graphics on the ps3 exclusives are amazing but for a xbox 360 exclusive this is very good but they have had this for development for 5 years so for the amount of time people have been waiting for this is should be good not only in graphics but story wise aswell.
Posted on April 16th, 2010 at 6:57 pm
looks great. very original game. i’d say the graphics look pretty stellar but still lacks the graphics on uncharted 2 and god of war 3
Posted on April 16th, 2010 at 6:58 pm
Alan wake looks really great, but go back and take a look at God of War 3.
and you do know that actually the ingame graphics are not the same as the cut-scene ?

If the graphical effects are so good why was there no blood on the axe as the ghost thing kills the bloke outside? its small detail such as blood on objects, warm air being exhaled in cold environments, footprints from puddles etc. I agree it does look good for the 360 but i think that has more to do with the game being so dark its not hard to achieve greater graphical effects when 60% of the screen is black, this is nothing even close to touching games like Heavy Rain, GOW 3 and Uncharted 2 or even 1 the that matter. Your hoping a 360 game will be able to surpass anything on the Playstation3, its typical fanboy hype, the reality is it aint going to happen, lets face it Playstation3 is King and with around 5 million units behind the 360 after a years heads tart with a 10 Million gap the Playstation3 is crawling up Microsoft’s ass and fanboys such as Ahmad Dajani are trying to sell the 360 because they are intimidated by Sony, the 360′s last gasp is with natal which i can see only doing as well as the eyetoy did, no one wants motion control, real gamers will be sticking to their Handheld controllers.. The real stand out for 2010 wont be Motion control or Natal, it will be Gran Turismo 5 and as an added bonus in 3D, we have motion control with the wii, the Customer wont see anything new in natal, 3D is something no one has experienced in gaming which is a brand new attraction for the customer which will be pushed frontline by Sony, I will lay all chips on the table and say that you will see a massive drop between the 5 million console gap this year and Gran Turismo will be the GAME that will cause that, GOW3 done 1.1 Million in its first month (Amazing) Gran Turismo will blow those numbers out of the water and be the real system seller.

Alan Wake looks great so far… but so far, it doesn’t look like it can contend with either GOWIII or Uncharted 2 during the gameplay portions. Especially Uncharted 2… Look at the environments. The developers use a lot of fog and darkness… you can’t even make out anything clearly in the backgrounds. Whereas in Uncharted 2, you can see detail for miles out into the draw distance. I do like the style and look of the game, and hopefully it’ll be one of my top 5 for this year… but graphically, I’m not seeing anything to dethrone the PS3 yet.
Lol, and Halo Reach DOES look like the best Halo we’ve seen so far this gen… but to compare it graphically to the best of the PS3 (or the 360 for that matter) is pretty laughable. If any game stands a chance of showcasing the 360′s power, it will probably be a multiplatform… Crysis 2. We still need to see more gameplay to be sure, but I suspect that this may end up one of the better looking games on either system. But even then, the developers have already said it runs better on the PS3. So I kind of think that the debate over which is the most powerful is over at this point. Now it’s just about the games…

Posted on April 16th, 2010 at 7:32 pm
Alan Wake looks good but there are 4 ps3 exclusives already that look better
Posted on April 16th, 2010 at 7:33 pm
What about Halo3, Crackdown, Forza? These games all had 360 specific engines and didn’t really push the envelope in terms of graphics.
That, and Alan Wake doesn’t look all that great either when compared to some other recent titles.
Posted on April 16th, 2010 at 7:36 pm
@jop and @aLAN:
Both of you just showed how uncivilized and foolish fanboys are. I live in Jordan btw, not in Iran lol. Can any of you debate about the points in the article? I don’t think so.
@Jamo:
“fanboys such as Ahmad Dajani are trying to sell the 360 because they are intimidated by Sony”
lol Sir i’m not a fanboy, I love all consoles. I’m not trying to sell any company console, just saying the truth. Alan Wake looks stunning, and anybody who say otherwise is a fanboy and delusional.
Posted on April 16th, 2010 at 7:37 pm
YEAH YEAH YEAH………Its amazing that anybody in the 360 camp has to keep justifying why they are still relevant when clearly they are not. This article is living proof of that citing that most of there games are made off a much inferior engine. Microsoft is scared and feels major pressure from Sony. So what they do is any chance they get they have there sharp shooters come out and make stupid statements like this article. How about this Greenberg know it all jerkoff everytime he or Microsoft feels threatened he has to come out running his mouth. Clearly Microsoft and there developers can not put out a product to match what Sony is doing right now. So instead they use smoke and mirrors to make u think they are better. Case and point is how Greenberg came out said Microsoft did better in sales in march in the U.S. but left out the rest of the world where Sony did better. Second how they say there console has a cheaper price point…..Well a Hyundai is cheaper than a Mercedes doesn ‘t mean i want to buy one. Cheaper is not always better if its gonna crap out on you in 6 months. Anyway that $199 console if you want get online and want wifi ends up being more that a ps3.{more smoke and mirriors}. WAKE UP PEPOLE!!!!!!!
Posted on April 16th, 2010 at 7:38 pm
If you’re impressed by Alan Wake’s 4xAA, then take a look at God of War 3–That game uses Cell-driven MLAA, which offers anti-aliasing equivalent to 16xAA or better!

Your text is lame, total lame.
Since the very beggining of this generation, the architeccture of the Xbox 360, being much easier to develop for, allowed the developers to take it power very near to the maximum, while the PS3 sucked well behind.
Now they are just untapping the PS3 power, while the X360 already showed what he came for. It is easier to get performance from it but when you try to push the engine, it just can’t keep with what the PS3 now has to offer.
Since the beggining Xbots were praising MS for their simpler hardware and now you just say that the engines don’t use the power of the xbox? MAN you suck, and suck badly.
Xbox’s architecture is much simpler, it is much similar to a PC than the PS3. All the devs coud get from it, they have already got.
Face it, xbots wont get anything better than Gears or Alan Wake (Gears 2 was just a mere change of colors in comparison to the first one).

@ Tony:
GOW3 looks great. One of the best looking games this gen. But I think that Uncharted 2 look better than GOW3 overall. Characters models in GOW3 look average (Zeus comes to mind) expect for Kratos character model (the best looking character I have ever seen).
GOW3 doesn’t have the same quality of lightning effects as those seen in Alan Wake, also Alan Wake has better physics. In GOW3 you can’t control the camera (I know it’s to make the game more cinematic) but it’s also an advantage to the dev to show the best parts of the game. In Alan Wake, you can control the camera to see every little detail in the game (the environments are large and detailed with lot of effects). In general Alan Wake is more impressive technically.
Posted on April 16th, 2010 at 8:10 pm
the xboox360 is old and played out…it can’t exceed pause in a downhill rocket race…now there trying to compare ALAN WAKE to UNCHARTED 2…or..KILLZONE 2….even GOD OF WAR 3…i remember when they said that the ps3 has nothing ….and there game graphics was nothing to GEARS OF WAR 2…NOOOWWWWWWW we have mass-effect 2 now alan wake is coming and it’s the best looking thing on any console…now using logic…that just don’t make sence…can alan wake really look and play better than GOD OF WAR 3…or HEAVY RAIN…(Alan Wake not just raising the bar for Xbox360 in term of visuals, it’s raising the bar for this whole generation. Technically and artistically, Alan Wake is shaping up to be the best looking game this generation.)…..what about GT5…or even L.A.NOIRE..this artical is sooo right about one thing…which is…(Let’s face it. The PS3 has been kicking the Xbox360 ass in the visuals department in the last two years. While games such as Mass Effect 2 and Gears 2 are visually stunning games, the PS3 has been raising the bar visually with its biggest exclusives such as Metal Gear Solid 4, Uncharted 2, Killzone 2 and the recently released God of War 3.)….which will NEVER change.

@Junior:
You absolutely didn’t get the article. Yes the Xbox360 is easier to develop for, but Microsoft was depending on third party dev to make exclusives game, while Sony depend on first party dev. Being easier to develop for doesn’t mean you can take advantage of its full power more easily. You need talented dev to make great looking games. Just what Sony is doing with the PS3 (Naughty Dog, Santa Monica etc)
Posted on April 16th, 2010 at 8:16 pm
No, same games with multiplatform engines today use all power of X360, because this engines are hightly optimized for te console. You are wrong.
Posted on April 16th, 2010 at 8:25 pm
Ahmad Dajani your comment was completely FANBOYISH…(GOW3 doesn’t have the same quality of lightning effects as those seen in Alan Wake, also Alan Wake has better physics)…..why don’t you just play an entire game based on lightning effects because the physics in god of war 3 is great..better than great….unreal…fighting on top of a titan while the titan is moving…it’s almost like the train part in uncharted 2…both having unreal physics….really is that the only thing that make’s ALAN WAKE better than GOD OF WAR 3….if so….then your a fanboy.

I remember when 360 owners would say…muiltplatform games look’s so much better on the 360 and the ps3 is just a over priced blu-ray player…OHHH.. and the ps3 has no games…and gears topped everything the ps3 has in the graphics department…and many other more stupid shit they would say…..NOOOOWWWWWWW….360 owners are changing there tune…switching there dance shoe’s….WHAT CONSOLE HAS THE BEST GRAPHICS TO DATE…WHAT CONSOLE HAS THE BEST EXCLUSIVES…WHAT COMPANY HAS BETTER FIRST PARTY DEV’S….WHICH COMPANY HAS A 10 YEAR LIFE CYCLE FOR THERE CONSOLE’S….not microsoft.
Posted on April 16th, 2010 at 8:38 pm
What’s with all the people being overly defensive of their PS3s?
Maybe Alan Wake doesn’t look as good as GOW3, but it still looks immense. However visuals aren’t everything, what about gameplay etc? If all you want is fancy graphics, go and play something soulless like GT5 ( if it ever gets released) or go and watch a Pixar Blu Ray, as gameplay trumps aesthetics everyday in terms of priority. GOW3 has great visuals, and while very enjoyable I really really rate it, but it wasn’t deep, infact the gameplay was very one dimensional.
Graphical output is always an added bonus, and it does help give better atmosphere and offer a better sense of immersion to the player, but that minimal difference between a PS3 exclusive and an Xbox one will not make one iota of difference to that.
I own all three current gen consoles, and I enjoy them all, but the 360 is by far the better one for me, for two very simple reasons, everyone I know owns one, so online is more fun, and the games. Base your console purchase on the games that suit you, not the technological numbers and the power of the machine.
For me the Xbox has more exclusive games I want to play, and while the PS3 had it’s moments with some great games at the start of this year, Heavy Rain, God of War 3… Where are they now? The next big exclusive is the ever delayed GT5, which will get pushed back because Sony won’t want it taking away from the launch of their PS Move controllers.
It’s the Xbox’s year games wise starting this week, Splinter Cell Conviction, Alan Wake, Crackdown 2, Halo Reach, Fable III, Gears of War 3 but to name a few that will all be out within the next year, and there are more than that.
Enough of the petty arguing of my consoles better than yours, enough turning to insults and racism, you do that and you’ve clearly lost an arguement because you’ve got nothing to actually put your point accross with, just enjoy playing on the console with the games you like available to play on it, in this day and age Brand loyalty means nothing because these big tech giants have no loyalty to yourselves either.

@ warriorpain:
The titans scenes in GOW3 were impressive, but truth to be told they were scripted and linear. On a technical stand point, I was more amazed by Shadow of the colossus fights on ps2 more than those scenes on GOW3. In Shadow of the colossus, you can reach any part of the colossi, unlike GOW3. I’m not bashing GOW3, hell no, it’s one of my favorites games of all time. I’m just saying my honest opinion. Agree or disagree, it’s your choice.
Posted on April 16th, 2010 at 8:42 pm
oH AND BY THE WAY the 30 has no more exclusive rpgs so you must not want to play those…. Oh were are the exclusive rpgs? They are all on the ps3
Posted on April 16th, 2010 at 8:43 pm
Ahmad Dajani you said
The titans scenes in GOW3 were impressive, but truth to be told they were scripted and linear. ”
They were still in game and were running in (dare I say it) REALTIME. The cutscenes from alan wake that everyone clamoured over weeks ago were admitted by remedy to being cgi, and not using the in-game engine. Big difference.
To be brutally honest I think that your comparison is quite preposterous to even say that alan wake completely surpasses these powerhouses. You even take the time to downplay an epic moment from a highly acclaimed videogame to bring about some opinionated point that somehow Alan wake will raise the bar this entire generation.
You speak big words, words too big for this article itself and I really don’t think its very becoming or professional. Just my take on it.
Posted on April 16th, 2010 at 9:13 pm
Hes not a professional….. maybe a professional sand monkey.
Posted on April 16th, 2010 at 9:23 pm
What exclusive RPGs? Blue Dragon, Lost Odyssey, Two Worlds, Two Worlds 2 (yes the first wasn’t great), Too Human, Mass Effect, Mass Effect 2, Mass Effect 3… all the multiplatform titles like FFXIII, Last Remnant, Tales of Vesperia, Resonance of Fate, Fallout 3 & New Vegas, Oblivion, Borderlands… Then there are the semi RPGs like Fable II and III which are also exclusive.
I’d say the 360 has more than it’s fair share of RPGs.
Being honest though, Im not an RPG fan, Fable and Borderlands are about as far as I can go RPG wise, the deeper ones I enjoy less.
What exclusive RPGs does the PS3 have? Not an arguement against the PS3, I’m genuinely curious.

Wow, you guys are some racist fucks. Sand niggers? Is that the best you guys can come up with for him saying Alan Wake has impressive graphics? The only people who deserve that term are those ignorant terrorists who kill innocents because they don’t believe in their religions. This man is clearly not one of those people.
I own a 360 (& a Wii) but I don’t have PS3 (yet) but I do know that PS3 will always have better graphics than 360 because PS3 has the advantage of having Blu-Ray, while Microsoft was greedy & tried to get a head start before Blu-Ray became big. But you are dumb as fuck, if you say this game’s, Halo: Reach’s & Mass Effect 2′s graphics aren’t amazing & rival some PS3′s games’ graphics.
Posted on April 16th, 2010 at 9:39 pm
man, i’m an Iranian but i sure don’t look like a sand nigger
anyhow, as other people said, alan wake a great game, but it is the light game, lightning can change the graphical effects dramatically.
and guys, western rpg simply sucks, so, yeah, stop, ps3 has ff13vs and ff14, way better than all those wrpgs (that’s my opinion though)
someone wrote about gt5 being soulless or something like that, i have just this: WHAT!?
btw, somebody talked about forza 3, i hate to say it as a ps3 fanboy, but i really enjoyed it and it had great gameplay, even better than gt5 prologue, and graphic was pretty good.
and yes titan battles,…….. no, the whole game was linear (hack and slash DOH!) but it doesn’t change the fact that physics in gow3 surpassed any other game (not shadow of colossus though)
at the end fuck you haters i’m IRANIAN
Posted on April 16th, 2010 at 10:14 pm
O.K. you are entitled to your own opinion mr. Dajani and it’s valid…a valid opinion of course…but picture this….(OHHHH…SHIITTTT….you seen that lightning..hold up..wait for it….there it goes again….OHHH SHHIIITTTTT…that lightning is the best i’ve ever seen…this is way better than GOD OF WAR 3…just the lightning alone make’s it better…OHHHH there is goes again….THAT’S IT …GAME OF THE YEAR…you seen that lightning…this is going to get game of the year)……..
see how stupid that sound…..kinda like your artical.
Posted on April 16th, 2010 at 10:14 pm
@ sony f@gboys. You really need to grow up. While you may take the graphics crown right now, it won’t always be like this. PC still dominates all and the author is 100 percent right. If MS invested more in 1st party studios, they would have stellar looking games as most ps3 games were using exclusive engines with over 5 years of dev time. You won’t be seeing a major leap as sony has played all their cards except for gt5 which is becoming like Duke Nukem Forever. What about to last months NPD? sony is now losing steam and will further drop. Yeah gow does 1.1 mil in a month. Great . . . most X360 exclusives do that in their first week let alone the first day. Good luck on your grillstation. All about the games and your precious little sony proved that last gen with the mighty ps2. Now you have tides reversed. Only difference is that sony can’t afford to lose 4 bilion unlike another company I know, so instead of spouting your nonesense, why don’t you go buy the games you so hype up for your glorious grillstation?
Posted on April 16th, 2010 at 10:16 pm
Look at the textures on wood and concrete…even in the dark you can see its on par with the PS2! LOLZZS!
Posted on April 16th, 2010 at 10:19 pm
360s graphics look better every year but thats all they have really improved, the ps3 shows it power by not only having spectacular graphics but by wrapping them around spectacular gameplay elements. the moving levels in uncharted 2 and gow3 are still unmatched by the 360 and they had a whole year head start, i should hope that they would be catching up to the ps3 graphics by now. as for alan wake……thats it?… this is what we have been waiting for? this is the big epic game opening scene? a beam of light comes out of the sky and gives him a gun and a flashlight, are you kidding me???? is this were a tv series i would have stopped watching right there. as for the rest of it. it looks no better then alone in the dark. i no longer care that this is a 360 exclusive.. i really hope it gets better.
Posted on April 16th, 2010 at 10:33 pm
also Alan wake lighting effects are the best because the game will always take place in the dark! LOLZ!
Uncharted 2 made in 8 months
Alan Wake made in 5 years
Alan Wake wins! LOLZ!

I own both a 360 and a PS3, and I have to say it looks like this year is going to be a great year to own both systems. Although I will admit the only games I have played on my PS3 are uncharted 1 and 2 and Killzone 2. So it’s pretty obvious I prefer the Xbox. Microsoft knew what they were doing when they created the 360. I havn’t liked a console this much since the Genesis/Super Nintendo days.
Posted on April 16th, 2010 at 11:02 pm
Wow. These peopleare some racist fanboys. Using words like nigger won’t cut it in a VIDEOGAME argument. This is what is ruining game sites online. Put it like this, all the PS3 fanboys say is that this game doesn’t look better than Killzone or Uncharted and all. Y’all fail to realize that graphics aren’t the key to a great game. It’s GAMEPLAY!!! You think Uncharted 2 was game of the year cause of graphics? NO!! It’s cause it’s one hell of a thrillride. Gameplay was great and the story was like a movie!! Games like Halo 3 and Gears 2 might not be as good looking as Uncharted 2, but why is Halo and gears being played still to this day? Cause of gameplay!!! Halo 3 sold over 10 mil now. Cause it’s a good game. Graphics this and graphics that. Shut up man. Let the 360 fans enjoy Alan wake. The game looks awesome and I bet it’ll be a good game. So take advice and stop bashing opinions.
Posted on April 16th, 2010 at 11:03 pm
hey, hey, hey……
you guys begin with graphic talks.
first of all we have not seen a real gameplay yet, so we can’t decide.
but how do you expect from ps3 fan who was bashed for 3 consecutive years because of their choice to keep quite?
specially when dumbasses compare AW’s graphic to UC and GOW and HR etc?
Posted on April 16th, 2010 at 11:17 pm
Can’t wait for this game… I love these sci fi thriller games, but in all honesty, it lacks in the graphics department compared to games like killzone 2, uncharted 2, heavy rain, god of war 3, etc… It’s one of my anticipated titles in 360 but let’s b serious, graphics don’t match most of the exclusive games on the ps3
Posted on April 17th, 2010 at 12:23 am
seriously the reason halo reach looks good next to halo 3 is because Halo3 looks like Halo 2. The decision to move to a deferred rendering solution is the reason for the graphics bump.
And have you not noticed the fog in Alan Wake it constricts the draw distance and allows for more effects without increasing processor load.
MS has been privy to exclusives from day one and for a console which is easy to program they have rarely looked particularly special.
Posted on April 17th, 2010 at 12:41 am
if the title of the article is right then how come splinter cell has average graphics?
also Mass Effect 2 is not exclusive I don’t own a 360 and played it and my PC, therefore NOT exclusive, alan wake on the other hand IS an exclusive
Posted on April 17th, 2010 at 1:02 am
These comments are just further proof why PS3 fanboys are the worst.
Posted on April 17th, 2010 at 1:12 am
there’s plenty of game not runing on a Multiplatform engines and look good but don’t compete with ps3 exclusive graphique, forza for example…
Posted on April 17th, 2010 at 2:09 am
Poor 360 is the inferior 199 console with no bluray blah blah blah. Who gives a crap. If you know technology you know that bluray/dvd has nothing to do with how a game looks. Jeez This has got to be the worst gen for ooh this game look better on ps3 no wait this game look good on 360. WHO FxxK CARES! Isn’t it all about the gameplay. Who cares if Alan Wake looks good if it plays like crap. I’ll say the same for Sony. These threads are pointless and mostly are started by some fanboy who wanna debate his system of choice over another. Honestly we’re at fault for these flood of pretty looking but short games. The game developers are all focus on making their game look good so some fanbody can say ooh that look better than anything on 360 or vice versa. I am so sick of seeing these threads. 5 hrs Splinter Cell Conviction, 8 hrs gow3 so far if a game isn’t looping the same area over and over it’s short. What other areas will Alan wake have you explore. Is the woods it? I all know is Nintendo kicking both Sony and Microsoft @ss and they have the worst detail graphics with no HD. So whatever bring Alan Wake and let’s see how long the campaign will be. I seriously wish the gamers and editors alike would get together of all systems and tell developers to stop releasing these short @ss games and charging 60.

i don’t what this writer is smoking but this game does NOT look as good as god of war 3 OR uncharted 2. it’s almost as good as heavy rain, but not quite.

Can’t we all just get along. After all I own both consoles so it doesn’t matter. Besides while some visuals are better on PS3 for various reasons I have never seen that it really matters. The purpose of graphics is immersion and both consoles get the job done. I never notice small differences between the consoles so even if I only owned 1 of the consoles would it still matter to anyone but a fanbut?

This does look good…but his movements is a little on the clunky side…the way the character runs is like he is doing the “running man” or something look a little stiff and the the facial animations are a little on the mannequin looking side…sorry Uncharted go the facial animation beat over this….this is not knocking the game so calm down Xbots. The lighting is amazing, but I want to see how this game looks in the day light in motion…..a game set in darkness can easily hide imperfections…look at SC: Conviction with the demo….that shit looked pathetic, the rest of game definitely made up for it.

TCHBR, honestly ps3 games only looks good in motion, to hide the lack of textures and low rez polygons with effects. You won’t see a good ps3 screenshot ever without it being bullshots. Xbox360 games looks good for screenshots because it actually has something the ps3 doesn’t and that is textures.

“and the absent of screen tearing.” watch 2:46 in the video, it’s an approximation but about 3 of the frames during that second are torn at about a 70% render, not bad, but making absolute statements is always (<—-see what i did there) a mistake especially in the situation where it can be proven incorrect. I really do think this game looks cool, and while some of the effects, like a mild zoom blur centered on the character causing a mild sense of tunnel vision upon the character, are cool it is all just souless aftertouching, and hopefully the whole game itself wont just be souless too.

@jop and @aLAN: You two racist faggots calling this guy names, you can go suck a fat BLACK dick. Too bad you need tweezers to pull your dick out just to pee. I know this because if you had any real balls, you’d debate this guy with logic and on the merits of the game.
You retarded punk bitches

Pity that it is only 960×547 native res. Hence no where near the graphical beast you are making it out to be.

how much did u get paid from Microsoft for this article?
Posted on April 17th, 2010 at 7:46 am
I intentionally skipped all comments in order not to bias my judgment. The point is, its true that Alan Wake look stunning and so does Halo:Reach (from the few pics i’ve seen). If you based it on just looks alone then, yes, there are impressive. But people who knows their S**t will know which ones are more technically impressive games.
Though i do have to reject the notion that X360 games visual, such as what your examples like Alan Wake, are surpassing PS3 games visually (nor technically which is a given). I would say the best looking X360 games are barely even on par with Killzone 2 or Uncharted 2.
BUT!!.. that’ll change with Crisis 2. PS3 fanboys are going to have a hard time standing on their “We have better visuals that X360 can never match’ point after Crisis 2 is release. Oh well, good for all fanboys i supposed.

dont get me wrong , im a xbox 360 fanboy till dead, but i think that ps3 exclusives like uncharted 2 and god of war 3 are visually impresive because of the camera angles and cinematics hollywood style that they are adding to their games.and thats something that yet to be seeing on the 360. UNcharted 2 train scene (first part of the game is visually stunning same goes to gow3 first scene) the rest of the elements in these games are pretty much the same as 360 games.
If 360 games can achieve this techniques it could help to boost visuallty the bar, its not just awesome graphic power.

damn it, can’t you guys stop talking about crysis 2?
devs said that pc will be superior and with consoles ps3 will be superior.

“Things are about to change now, as we are seeing games such as Alan Wake equaling or surpassing PS3 exclusives in term of visuals.”

@wezzer : actually crysis devs have said that the pc vrsn looks best (no suprise as it costs a fortune to maintain it should be better) but that the ps3 version preforms and looks better than the 360 on a small scale :cue comparision shots lol

I have both a PS3 and a 360. Best of both worlds. And I have learned one thing in having both (got a PS3 before the 360, btw) is that the only thing that counts is gameplay.
Sure, graphics makes for the “WOW” factor, and God of War 3 certainly has that in spades and Uncharted 2 is fantastic.
However….
The games I have enjoyed most so far this year are Splinter Cell Conviction, Toy Soldiers and Shadow Complex. These are all 360 games. Don’t get me wrong, I love my PS3 with a passion. I love the games and the hardware is head and shoulders above anything the XBOX has to offer and for multiplatform I always choose my PS3 (because it runs better and is quieter, only takes one disk and it just feels more complete). But I am, at heart, a gamer and the game is all that matters. Does it engage me? Does it challenge me? Most importantly, is it FUN!
Heavy Rain was not. Splinter Cell is.
My ideal console would be made by Sony and have an interface put together by Microsoft. As the President says in Mars Attacks! “Why can’t we just….Get Along?”
And quit it with the ignorant racism guys. You just play into the hands of people who point at gamers and say “brain dead assholes”

sc is definitely great in terms of intertaining, but i will never pay for 5hr campaign mode.

“it’s raising the bar for this whole generation”
WTF is this guy smoking? please whats ur name that wrote this article that looks like your moms face, don’t be making up bull shit bruv alrite? idiot doesnt even know what hes talking about,

Lol, okay… just now seeing this article. While all of the sand nigger comments are highly inappropriate, and I apologize for the American ignorance of my peers… Your article is based on faulty assumptions Mr. Ahmad Dajani. This is not the 1st exclusive for the 360 built on a proprietary engine. That would be your first folly…. but the largest is the fact that this game simply does not measure up to the PS3′s exclusives in terms of graphics. The game looks good… I don’t think there are many people that would debate that. But in terms of graphical detail, textures, draw distance, animations, etc… PS3 owners have been playing games on an equivalent level graphically for over a year… and have moved on to far better now.
I know that people have favorite consoles. I own both a 360 and a PS3, and admittedly, I favor the PS3. However, some things are not worth arguing; regardless of your biases. No matter how competent PSN may be, PS3 fanboys cannot argue the superiority of Live’s FEATURES. No matter how competent the 360′s hardware may be, 360 fanboys can no longer argure the superiority of the PS3′s hardware. It’s pretty clear at this point. So while it’s cool to be a fan of any game, on any system, articles like this can’t help but to make you look a little silly… Especially after you posted the day time gameplay vids, lol. Which showed that Alan Wake isn’t even on par with Heavy Rain graphically… much less Uncharted 2 or GOWIII.

@Weezer…
Devs have already admitted that Crysis 2 runs better on the PS3.

Posted on April 17th, 2010 at 6:08 pm
Ahmad Dajani you said
The titans scenes in GOW3 were impressive, but truth to be told they were scripted and linear. ”
They were still in game and were running in (dare I say it) REALTIME. The cutscenes from alan wake that everyone clamoured over weeks ago were admitted by remedy to being cgi, and not using the in-game engine. Big difference.
kunimitsu said -
To be brutally honest I think that your comparison is quite preposterous to even say that alan wake completely surpasses these powerhouses. You even take the time to downplay an epic moment from a highly acclaimed videogame to bring about some opinionated point that somehow Alan wake will raise the bar this entire generation.
You speak big words, words too big for this article itself and I really don’t think its very becoming or professional. Just my take on it.
^^^^ THIS!!!!
Man this paragraph bashes everything in that article, way to go. You should be writing, not whoever is now.
Posted on April 17th, 2010 at 7:06 pm
the very fact that ps3 fanboys swarm anything that has tp do with 360 shows how butt hurt they are. really gow3 isnt even that impressive technicly your in a moving box the whole time and you cant move out of it so all they have to do is paint the outside and inside.
Posted on April 18th, 2010 at 3:28 am
wow
wow
man you should play the game atleast
Posted on April 18th, 2010 at 12:09 pm
The thing about what the author said tho about it’s “graphics” isn’t really accurate because Alan Wake uses PRE-RENDERED files for all cut-scenes.
…………………………………………………………………………………………………………………..
The actual cinematics are all separate pre-rendered video files. We do have some sequences where we do what I guess could be called real-time cutscenes (like the “reveal camera” moments, for example), but percentagewise, those are definitely in the minority.
All of the cinematics have been rendered by our game engine, though. It’s just that we use more high-resolution models because the camera tends to be a lot closer to the characters than during gameplay, and we throw in a bunch of post-processing to make things look very pretty.
I’m sure we’ve mentioned this before, but it’s also worth pointing out that we do almost all of the major loading in the game during the cinematics — I believe the only instances you will see a loading screen is when you die, and when you come back to the game after turning it off. (Unless I forgot something, but I’m pretty sure that’s it.)

both systems are equal in raw power stop arguing about that crap. 360 has proven to be a upgradable system and has the ability to adapt with its xbox live which is still the most advance online community in gaming. Both systems have great games, but 360 still sells way more software, PS3′s system sellers sell well but not as well as 360s, online games are what put you over the top and lets face it, PS3′s mp games are basically nonexsistant cept for MAG which didnt live up to its potential and Resistance, COD MW2 sold substancially more on 360, Gears of War 1-2 have sold for 14 million copies combined, Halo 3 sold 8 million, and this is just to name a few, your 360 killers? You have none do you honestly think grand turismo is the type of game that is gonna sell over 2 million copies? Racing games are basically dead. Shooters are what sell its a sad truth but a fact.

Ok, first of all I’m writing this message on my PS3′s web browser, second there still isn’t a single game on Xbox 360 that can surpass Unchrted 2 or Kill Zone 2, but even if they did manage to make a game that surpass the two games Iv mentioned in graphical terms, there is already knew upcoming games on PS3 such as Unchrted 3, Resistance 3, Infamouse 2, Kill Zone 3, and GOW4 hehehe… Alan Wake dosn’t even look that impressive the only big thing I see about Alan Wake is that ridiculously enormous Bullshit on the ground.
