The myth that Xbox360 is maxed out is invalid now
There was a time when I wrote an article about how previous multiplatform engines like the Unreal Engine 3 (lots of Xbox360 exclusives also used the same engine) didn’t do the Xbox360 justice. Also, in the same article I said that upcoming games and upcoming engines are going to change this situation and you are going to see so much better looking games on Xbox360 than what we used to see from before. Guess what? I was 100% right and to prove that, I will present to you five games that show that the Xbox360 isn’t maxed out like many gamers claimed. Yes, I know that Gears of War 3 uses a highly modified Unreal Engine 3 and it looks stunning and Halo: Reach looks outstanding, but the most impressive looking games at E3 2010 in my opinion were multiplatform games. Keep in mind that these games are using new engines for the first time. So without further ado I present to you five games that show that the Xbox360 is still a monster machine:
1. Castlevania: Lord of shadow:
I’m a huge fan of the castlevania franchise and I was a bit worried about this game before E3, but after I saw some gameplay footage from the game, all of my worries vanished. Lord of Shadow is shaping up to be one of the best looking games of this generation. The transition between cut scenes and gameplay is so seamless, the lightning and the visuals overall looks stunning, the character models are absolutely some of the best I have ever seen (the best looking werewolves I have ever seen in my life), and the animation is top notch.
2. Metal Gear Solid: Rising:
While this trailer doesn’t show a lot of gameplay segments, it absolutely shows that Kojima Production is one of the most talented developers in the industry. I don’t know if they are using a highly modified version of the MGS4 engine or a wholly new engine, but what I’m certain of is Rising is going to be technologically superior game than MGS4.
3. Crysis 2:
The devs of Crysis 2 are saying that this game is going to be the best looking FPS in the market. While this is debatable, you can’t argue with the fact that Crysis 2 is a technical showpiece. Crysis 2 has great looking textures, amazing physics engine and destructibility, spectacular visual effects, and it will support 3D on all platforms.
4. Enslaved:
Enslaved looks stunning. It’s one of my most anticipated games of 2010. This game has a very good chance of reaching the same visual fidelity of the great looking PS3 exclusive Uncharted 2. The artistic design of this game is mesmerizing, the animation of the characters is top notch. Everything in this game looks fantastic.
5. Rage:
Rage is possibly is the best looking game of E3 2010. You have to see the game in motion to understand what I’m talking about. If you have seen the footage above, you are going to notice that Rage was running on Xbox360 not on PC at 60FPS. WOW.

Ahmad Dajani,the desperate xbox fanboy is back,you should make some reseasrch about the unreal engine 3 and see that it is the PS3 the console wich is suffering the most because the unreal engine was made for the xbox360 in mind.

wow rage looked good but still the environments are lifeless and Crysis 2 on consoles looked good too but even it still looked downgraded. So no the 360 is not maxed out but it has a long way to go before it reaches ps3′s graphics, sound, particle effects, scale, and animation all in one.

Even though The Unreal Engine 3 was made for the Xbox360 in mind, the tech is old now (The first game that used the engine was Gears of War 1 ) that why Epic games have been adding new features and improving the engine with every gears of War game. Also, I will tell you how Unreal Engine 3 hurt the Xbox360, most of not all of the Unreal Engine 3 (exclusives and multi) games looks the same ( too much brown color palette and lack of colors). Gears of War 3 looks great as Epic games is implementing the latest and the newest improvement to the UE3. The games in this list look very different from the unreal engine 3 and at the same time have very advanced technology. Also, it seems that you agree that these games looks so much better that any previous Xbox360 games, which is the point of this article.

Guess what? This whole killzone/uncharted argument (by the way uncharted 2 & HR are my favorite games) is such a fail. Are you just pissed from all the new DRM making it more difficult to steal free xbox games?

mgs rising looks much better than KZ3 just look at the characters ugly faces, their hand skins and uniforms in KZ3 the texture looks horrible they are just using the light to to hide bad textures ITS A FACT !!!!

I agree MGS rising easily looks as good as Uncharted2, in fact it looks almost just like it LOL! The Sony roaches are terrified of this reality, this is why you get negative feedback for this article. Anytime anyone writes anything 360 positive they will be trashed by Sony roaches, those guys truly are scum, never seen a more insecure group of people or should I say maggots.

Sorry… the Xbox is dead… it may be able to play the games that are coming but if you even compare the new xbox to the old ps3 (not even thinking about the new ones with better cores) the graphics are still more than the xbox can handle… All they did was get the console quieter and change the size of the console…
Till the Core of the console and the GPU are both replaced and upgraded… Xbox 360 will remain dead as even if they do so… that would force others to upgrade again while sony just makes their console consume less power and quieter… so i still say sony did better on producing a console than Microsoft…

personally, i think that all of these games looked great, however, i do think that castlevania and enslaved looked a little bit generic, i dunno why really, they just didn’t have any wow factor about them. fact is though rising, crysis 2 and rage are probably the three best looking games out there, with games like uncharted 2, killzone 3, halo reach and gears of war 3 all coming very closely behind. also i would like to say, firstly i own all three consoles, and have no alliegance to any console, however I would say that halo has better gameplay than killzone, and gears of war has better shooting than uncharted 2, (can’t compare the other elements because gears doesnt have them). and with halo reach looking now as good looking (if not better looking) than killzone, sony fanboys have nothing to get on halo’s back about, and plus, halo reach has loads of colour in some of the levels, and looks great for it, whereas killzone is full of brown and blacks. oh yeah, and rising looks better than mgs4, however, mgs4 will probably be a better game.
PS just like to point out i do like killzone and uncharted loads, and think they ae totally fantastic games, i’m not just bashing them.

On topic, I think what I find most disturbing about all this is that the author was indeed one of the only writers to say this early on when other so called game industry media professionals were saying the same thing as the teenage fanboys around the internet. “PS3 is superior” “360 is maxed out,” silly notions like those are obviously not true, given that the PS3 struggles with basic multiplatform games, while 360 runs them with ease.
Its clear that what was happening is Sony was bankrolling the extra funds and manpower needed to make a great looking game on their console. No one else could afford to do this because lets face it, most devs are in business to make money. Devs were pumping out cheap profitable, but graphically average games on 360. This is why it took longer for any worthwhile games at all to come out on PS3, because it took longer and more money to get games like Uncharted up and running. Now that we are seeing more effort being put into 360 development, we are seeing games that prove what we had only seen on PS3 can also be done on 360.
This is not rocket science, yet not one of the big gaming news outlets would write about these facts and squash all the fanboy banter that is poisoning the net. Had IGN, Gamespot, and 1up long ago explained to the fanboy kids that neither console is miles better than the other and that the graphical differences we see are most likely the result of money and politics, we could have avoided a lot not all fanboy wars.
These guys are supposed to be the professionals, the game industry insiders, the adults, yet all we ever got from IGN, Gamespot and 1up was the same crap that the fanboy kids came up with.
So congrats to Ahmad on your foresight and maturity. Not too many real professionals in the gaming media. Most are nostalgic undercover Sony fanboys, with a supressed grudge against Microsoft for entering the console gaming arena. Keep up the great work Ahmad

these ps3 fanboys are blind. its obvious the 360 isnt maxed out. look at rage and crysis 2. both of them look better then every past 360 game except for maybe allen wake. alot of people said the 360 was maxed out when gears 2 came out but look at gears 3. it looks much better then 2. and halo reach. not only does it look great graphically no other game including all games on the ps3 could show 40 enimies and 20 vicheles on screen while in 4 player splitscreen.

Seriously, I have a PS3 now and I am definitely going to buy another 360. These games look better and better. Only blind idiot bats say that Halo: Reach does not look better than KZ2 and that GoW3 does not look better than Uncharted 2. 360 is definitely not maxed out, especially since we all know it haves a better graphics card than the PS3. Sorry idiot PS3 fans, 360 is definitely putting out the graphics, you guys have no facts or evidence to base your arguments on. Just look at the screenshots, thats all I say.

Listen Playstaion FanGirls, the article states that newer multiplatform games are looking better than older Xbox 360 games, and theyre right. Theyre not saying that its looking better than Uncharted or Killzone. Theyre saying Gears 3 is looking better than Gears 2 and such. U see how mad these fangirls get when an Xbox 360 article hits the surface? U guys are just mad that the gamers are waiting like crazy for Halo Reach and Gears 3 to be released to flock to a game store to buy 2 Million copies in the first week. And games like Killzone? What sells that game? word of mouth. Graphics this and graphics that. What sells Halo and Gears? The GAME!! I own both consoles.. I bought my 360 first and ps3 second.. I love xbox live and of course the multiplayer games perform better and look better overall for the 360.. ps3 fanboys can make all kinds of excuses for why this is so but just face facts already and quit whining!! I love my ps3 for some key exclusives, but microsoft so far has the online component locked down.. waiting to see how ps3 plus goes.. I will certainly be buying the xbox slim at some point before the year is out..waiting to see more from kinect but I am interested.. sony’s testicle on a stick they call move doesn’t do it for me.. and by the way the games I’m most looking forward to are multiplats such as cod black ops, ghost recon future soldier, dead space 2, madden, rage, crysis, medal of honor. These will probably all be purchased for my 360 for the aforementioned reason, with medal of honor being the lone possible ps3 purchase. The exceptions to these games would be gears 3, halo reach, gt5, and killzone 3… the graphical difference between the consoles is not that great and I care about gameplay kids.. you should too..instead of trying to make your console of choice seem like the best due to a b or c.. irrelevant..it’s not like sony is using the extra capacity of the blu-ray to make games that last longer and play better… if all you can point to is a slight graphical advantage that is pretty weak.. I could look at pc gaming and say alot of games look fantastic and blow both consoles off the map but who gives a s%$#!! I’m not interested in pc gaming!! so no matter what the games look like it doesn’t matter!!

i’m sorry, did you just say that it is impossible for a multiplatform game to look better than an exclusive, i’m sorry, did you not look at crysis 2?!?! i mean c’mon, that easily looks better than pretty much any exclusive there is, an also, nobody seems to have noticed that it is unlikely either console will be pushed to their max until the next generation comes out anyway, or close to that. developers are constantly finding new ways to push better and better graphics through the same old hardware, i mean it took about 7 or 8 year for the ps2 to be maxed out!

but, don’t forget, it is a pc developed multiplat.
it is going to be dumbed on both ps3 and xbox.
because pc has a way higher graphic power because it changes all the time.

This article was right on. Games have continued to look better and better on the 360. Halo Reach looks a lot better than Halo 3 and Gears of War 3 looks better than Gears of War 2.
Multiplatform games like Crysis 2, Rage, and Castlevania blow away most exclusives and they show that you can get better graphics on the 360 simply by creating better engines.
I bet the upcoming Crytek exclusive for the Xbox 360, Project Kingdoms, will be even better looking than Crysis 2 on the 360. I can’t wait to see it.
