It’s obvious that the developers at Vigil Games are big fans of the Legend of Zelda, God of War, and Castlevania games. With of course Zelda games being the biggest influence on Darksiders; beating dungeons, solving puzzles, riding a horse, and fighting bosses are some of the similarities you will be experiencing while playing Darksiders. More of the same isn’t a bad thing when you do it properly, but does Darksiders stand on its own?

The game starts like this: You take on the role of War, who is one of the four legendary Horsemen of the apocalypse; the apocalypse has just taken place prematurely, and the world destroyed, and War finds himself tasked to find out who was behind this; caught in the heat of battle between angels and demons. You guessed it. Something not good is going to happen and a lot of unanswered questions will rise. The game’s story introduces themes like betrayal, vengeance, justice and it also depends on revelations to keep things interesting.

As you get deeper in the game, you will meet with some interesting characters that are going to help you in your journey. The first of those characters is The Watcher, he acts like Midna or the fairy Navi from the Legend of Zelda games. He guides you so you can accomplish certain tasks that need to be achieved in order to progress through the game. Another important character is Vulgrim. Feed his hunger for souls and he will feed your curiosity. He’s a greedy demon who provides you with various upgrades, items, and weapon moves during the game, in return for souls you get from your battles.

War has lost much of his power. As you progress in the game, you will get his powers back, and you will gain new items that will come in handy. Every new gear item you get in the game will be your tool to success. One of the first important gear items you will get in the game is the cross blade. The Cross blade is Darksider’s version of the Boomerang we knew from Zelda games. It can be used to solve puzzles by hitting objects/switches, and it can also be used as a weapon to hit enemies. Each of the gear items you get in the game can be used to interact with the game’s environment or solve puzzles, and they can also be used in combat.

The puzzles in this game are fun to solve; they aren’t very challenging to pull off, but they are satisfying. The game tune up its puzzle solving difficulty in the final dungeon, in which you will get a gear item that will grant you the ability to travel between portals. I had a very good time beating the final dungeon, it was cleverly designed and a lot of fun to beat.

Fighting in Darksiders is fun and enjoyable, as you will get new weapons and attack moves during your play through. War has some cool moves and a lot of gruesome finishers. Though the combat in Darksiders isn’t perfect. The controls aren’t very intuitive. As you will find yourself pressing a lot of buttons just to execute an attack move. Also, the dash or the evade move wasn’t very responsive. Sometimes, fighting get repetitive even after you get all of the weapons and all the different moves in the game. You will be pulling the same moves again and again.

Graphically, the game looks great. What makes Darksiders a beautiful game is its amazing artistic design. The game’s environments are colorful, varied and amazingly done. Also, characters and enemies design are superb. The acting and characters animation looks amazing during the game’s cut scenes, but not as fluid as you would hope for during gameplay segments. The voice acting in Darksiders is great and really make the game’s story very enjoyable to follow. The game has good soundtrack, it’s atmospheric and sometimes epic.

the developers at Vigil Games have had tried their best in mixing the best parts of what we love from our favorite games while also trying to make the game feel fresh and remarkable. Have they succeeded? Despite some issues in the combat system and not so great final boss fight, Vigil Games has created a worthy action-adventure game. If you are a fan of action-adventure games, you owe it to yourself to play this game because Darksiders is the start of a great franchise.

Score: (9.0/10)

Since platinum games (previously known as Clover studious) struck a deal with Sega to make three new titles for the current generation of consoles, and I have been following them closely to know what exactly the developers behind some of the most creative titles in recent memory are up to. Kamiya, the creator of the original Devil May Cry has promised that Bayonetta will redefine the action-beat em up genre. At that time, when he made this promise, I actually believed that he can do it. That’s because of two simple reasons: All of his games are of high quality and who will be more qualified in redefining this genre other than who has started it in the first place?

From now on, when you talk about the best combat system in an action-beat em up game, you have to forget about God of War, Ninja Gaiden, Devil May Cry and every other game; that’s because Bayonetta actually has the most responsive, enjoyable, varied and frantic battle system around and I will explain why after the jump.

The flexibility of the system and how it gives the player the ability to perform attack moves in various ways is absolutely magical. You can go from light attacks to heavy ones to gun attacks seamlessly without breaking the combo. Unlike most of all action beat em up games, nearly every move in Bayonetta can be jump canceled, but Bayonetta does one better: in many cases, the jump comes out without canceling the attack. The ability to evade and attack simultaneously means that your offensive momentum doesn’t have to stop for anything.

Almost every move can be charged. Also, you can go from a light attack to charged attack easily just by holding a button, which actually adds a lot of strategy to the whole system. You will be asking yourself: Should I start the combo with heavy attacks, then finish the combo with lightning fast moves? Or should I start it with gun attacks and move on to fast moves and finish it with super charged move? The options and flexibility in Bayonetta combat feels limitless.

Bayonetta also has the richest list of moves in an action-beat em up game thus far. The list of moves go on and on. Every now and then, you will discover a new move that helps you in your battles against the game’s enemies. The game also has some very well animated finishing moves (Torture Moves) that can be triggered whenever the purple meter is filled. Another strategic element in the combat is “Witch Time”, which activates when the player makes a well-timed dodge to an attack. This temporarily slows time to allow Bayonetta to inflict massive amounts of counter damage before the enemies can react. Using enemies weapons also adds an extra layer to the combat and make the whole game more varied and dynamic.

Ninja Gaiden 2 (or Sigma 2) comes close but doesn’t has the flexibility of Bayonetta, God of War 3 (yes, I have played the demo) is a button masher when compared to Bayonetta, and Devil May Cry 4 lacks the variety of moves found in Bayonetta. Kamiya has raised the bar, redefined the genre and made every other action game feels old and repetitive. Give the demo a try, you will not be disappointed. If you still want to overlook the game, it’s your loss.

One of my favorite movies during the last few years was 3:10 to Yuma, Where Dan (Christian Bale) offers to escort the legendary cold blood killer Ben Wade (Russell Crowe) to the city of Contention to take the 3:10 PM train to Yuma to be sent to his trial. In return, he would receive US$ 200,00 , Enough to save his land and give a better life to his family.

Now I don’t know why! But watching the movie lately really inspired me to buy Call of Juarez: Bound in Blood, I like the western cowboy’s atmosphere, women, horses and all the classic pistols in there and how lucky we are if we found all this along with a well made Western music that can be as much a character as the actors, well it will be an amazing experience if I found at least something from these things in the game, I said to my self.

I read some reviews for the game and it seems fair for me so I picked my copy and started the game the moment I arrived home but when I first played the game it was a big shock for me to see “DAN” inside the game !!

When I watched the first cut sense before I started the game for the first time, I said to my brother next to me: wait, its Christian Bale !! I started searching the internet for any information to explain why “Thomas” is looking like “Dan”?!

I thought Christian bale have something to do with the game or at least anyone but me noticed the Similarities between the two characters, but I found nothing.

Now I wont ask if it’s legal or not, or was it meant to be by Ubisoft or not, but at least did anyone noticed this too? Or is it just my imagination?
