The hype surrounding the forthcoming installment in the God of War series is reaching a legendary status. We knew that Santa Monica’s hotly anticipated title God of War 3 will be released this month, but it seems that the fans will have something to look forward to after they beat the game.

In an interview with Steve Caterson (senior producer of God of War 3) on gametrailers.com, the interviewer asked him what was the hardest cut they made from the game during its development? The senior producer of the game has revealed that they had to cut a ‘whole kind of epilogue’ from the game for some reason, and hinted that we ‘may see it later’ which sounds very obvious that we will see this epilogue as an add on for the game.

He didn’t reveal the reason behind the cut, but it seems that he has revealed the first DLC for the game. I can’t wait to play the full game, but strangely, I can’t stop thinking about that we won’t see or play the removed epilogue on day one.

When Take Two and Microsoft struck a deal in 2007 that GTA 4 is getting two DLCs exclusively for the Xbox 360, everyone including Microsoft and Take Two were expecting a great success for these DLCs. But according to the sales figures for these DLCs, it seems that this wasn’t what they hoped for.

Take Two CEO Ben Feder thinks that the late release of the DLCs after the original game has caused the game to suffer in the sales department:

“Both we and Microsoft believed there was a big market for GTA 4 episodic content and some factors affected their performance.

Both were released significantly after the launch of the core unit and therefore weren’t able to leverage GTA 4′s initial marketing campaign and initial launch fervor.”

With the Lost and the Damned released after 10 months of the original, and The Ballad of Gay Tony after 18 months from GTA 4 initial release, I guess that what he claims about the reason of the poor sales for the two pieces of DLCs might be correct.

Though he admits the poor sales of the DLCs, he has high hopes for better sales in the future for these DLCs:

“There’s very little precedent for this type of episodic content at the price point we offered it. And so we’re confidant that these titles will continue to have a long life just as we’ve seen a long life from all of our other prior GTA releases.”

It’s really a shame, considering that both DLCs are of high quality, especially the second DLC, The Ballad of Gay Tony.

Valve has just announced the first game add-on “The Passing” for Left 4 Dead 2. It will bring the original Left 4 Dead (L4D1) Survivors down south for a meeting with the L4D2 cast, while delivering new single-player, multiplayer and co-operative gameplay for the PC and Xbox 360.

Targeted for release in early spring, “The Passing” takes place just after the Dead Center campaign of L4D2. Set in a small town in rural Georgia, players assume the role of the L4D2 Survivors as they meet with the L4D1 characters.

In addition to the new co-operative campaign and associated narrative, “The Passing” will include new arenas for Survival, Versus and Scavenge mode and introduce a new co-operative challenge mode of play. The Passing will also include a new “uncommon common” zombie class, melee weapon, and firearm.

With the AI Director 2.0, L4D’s dynamic gameplay is taken to the next level by giving the Director the ability to procedurally change weather effects, world objects, and pathways in addition to tailoring the enemy population, effects, and sounds to match the players’ performance. The result is a unique game session custom fitted to provide a satisfying and uniquely challenging experience each time the game is played.

“The Passing will become the most important campaign in the Left 4 Dead story, as all the Survivors are being called together in one campaign,” said Doug Lombardi, VP of marketing at Valve. “It will also be a huge offering of new gameplay content, with something new for every game mode plus a new uncommon common and weaponry.”

Exclusively available for the Xbox 360 and PC, L4D2 sets a new benchmark for co-operative action games. The title adds melee combat to enable deeper co-operative gameplay, with items such as a chainsaws, frying pans, axes, baseball bats, and more. Pricing will be announced closer to launch.

According to ‘Valve news’ twitter feed, the ‘Crash Course’ campaign DLC is set to be released this Thursday (9/10/2009).

The new campaign includes “new locations, new dialogue from the original cast, and an explosive finale,” and it spreads the mayhem across a co-op campaign, survival maps, and a “streamlined version” of the Versus mode experience lasting 30 minutes.

While PC gamers will not pay any penny to get this DLC, Xbox360 gamers must spend 560 Microsoft points (7$) to play this expansion. pretty ironic, don’t you think?

Confirmed: ‘Crash Course’ campaign DLC release date is September 29, 2009.

Update 1:

It seems that ‘Valve news’ isn’t an official twitter account for Valve. But you can follow this link as it confirms that ‘Crash Course’ DLC will be released this month . We will try to contact Valve to see if the ‘Crash Course’ DLC will arrive this Thursday or not. We regret the error and we will try to update this post ASAP.

Update 2:

I have sent an email to Valve just to ask them if we will see the DLC this Thursday, but they haven’t replied to me. I will update this story as soon as I have some informations to share.

Update 3:

It seems that you can play the Crash Course DLC with The hard-rocking band Paramore in September 23rd on XBL, which is indicating that Valve could release the Crash Course DLC in the same day. Follow this link to see the full details. So September 23rd is a possible (not guaranteed) release date for the Crash Course DLC.
